KA24DE OBD2 questions...

I'm about to buy a KA24DE motor it's out of a 97. I'm not sure what I'm going to put it into yet. My questions are;

1. Is the OBD2 version a pain in the ass to do anything to, in particular turbo? it's seems that is usually the case.

2. Also can I use a early harness/ecu from say a 91-94 OBD1 DE? will it swap over? are their any sensors that don't match up?

I'm so sick of FWD.... I might put this motor in a first gen or perhaps a pickup truck...

i don't see why obd2 would make turboing the car any harder.

the distributor harness plugs
coolant temp sensor harness plug
engine temp sensor harness plug

thats just what i know. might be more. the typical solution is to swap your intake manifold, especially if its going into a s13. theres alot of extra hoses and lines on the obd2 intake man that need to be removed. there's a decent bit of info on freshalloy... that's where i did my research anyway. (i did a 97 into a 95)

why not use OBDI S14 like 95 versus the 01-94? all plugs should match up in this case. minus the extra plugs for evep emisions solenoids and crap like that

aznpoopy, did you swap obd1 ECU and harness when you used obd1 manifold?

s14 OBDI harness plugs for the sensors i listed above do *not* match up with s14 OBDII plugs.

for clarification, this is exactly what i used, and it all plugs in:

97 engine and tranny is from a SE /w ABS
95 car is a base model, no ABS

97 Block
97 5 Speed Transmission
95 front driveshaft (obviously i didnt get the 97 driveshaft... )
95 Tranny sensors (not because they dont match up, but b/c the 97 didnt come with any)
95 Crank Angle Sensor (again, not on the block)
95 Starter (97 starter was missing the harness plug, looks like someone ripped it off)
95 Distributor (the 97 dist has different shaped plugs)
95 Lower Intake manifold [aka Throttle Body] (this is where you have alot of extra crap on te 97 version)
97 Upper Intake manifold [aka the four pipe things] (you need to cut a small coolant hose to make it fit, as one of the coolant lines is angled differently; i also swapped the two sensors on it so they fit with the harness)
95 Powersteering pump (didnt come with the block...)
97 A/C (plugs right in)
95 fuel rail (97 fuel rail has alot of extra crap on it, looks like egr shit again but i am not sure)
97 injectors
95 OBDI Harness
95 ECU (yeah, like i was gonna swap to obdii... :P)

theres a shitload of extra lines and hoses on the 97 throttle body. stupid emissions crap... i simply did not feel like going through all that. hope this helps.

So... I have a 97, but I pulled the EGR and capped all the old vacuum ports and all that good stuff... Is there any reason I couldn't use an OBD1 ECU?

like would it fuck with my distributor timing or anything?

sorry to jack your thread..

Why would it? Same engine. OBD has nothing to do with engine operation.
