swap, anything else?
ok, flame away but I have been researching and researching and have as much info piled up as I can handle, got that out of the way..
ok, now, my question is as follows, What else do you think that I need for a good swap. I mean which parts have you guys come up needing in the middle of the swap that you may not have gotten before, i.e. boost controller, or down pipe. the following I have already purchased per enjuku (these are the things they said I MUST have for their engine, 1. srt20det redtop 2. downpipe 3. hotpipe w/bov ssq 4. fuel pump 5. slave and master cylinder and rest of auto to manual stuff 6. greddy fmic this is what I have right now, some other sugestions were boost controller, electric fans, lsd, new clutch, and boost guage. all of these will come soon enough, but I am looking for must haves right now. any help is greatly appreciated, and my search button is about worn out. |

You should have done LSD earlier but if you're planning on doing it very soon I guess I can forgive you for the time being. ![]() That said, I'm going to step away from the thread because I know nothing about SRs and don't really care to learn. |

thats cool guys, no harm done, I just want to do everything in the right order, actually we just got done installing the megan coilovers, they rock!!!!!!!! next is the fun auto to manual swap, parts for that are here on tues.
p.s. the reason I did not do the lsd earlier, I was informed that I need to change out the driveshaft from one person and that I could use the same ds that came on my auto, I still need to do some research, but when I get the right answer, lsd here we come. |

You don't need a new driveshaft to install a lsd. You take the open diff out of the carrier and install the new one.

Don't do everything at once. Install the stock motor and see how it runs then slowly added the upgrades and mods. If you put everything in at once and it doesn't run right, you now have a ton of things to check isn't of just checking the motor.
Back on topic, I would replace the gaskets and belts. You will want a Z32 MAFS. I don't know if you forgot to say it or you already ahve it but a 3" exhaust will be needed. You might want to replace the clutch/flywheel as well. |

true, you dont need a driveshaft to install an LSD. You will need a manual driveshaft to do teh auto to manual swap. So if you dont have that, get it quick. s13 to s13 and s14 to s14. Dont change them up.

all maintenance items. my spark plug and valve cover gaskets look good, so i am not replacing those. water pump is something that is easy to tell if it is going bad, so that is not a must have, but it is still a good idea. thermostat is necessary, just a stock replacement is perfect. radiator is easy to upgrade to a koyo or something later if you want. alot of this also depends on if u have a clip or not. with the clip you can just reuse your bov, radiator, clutch fan, etc. im using my radiator, but i got some electric fans from a subaru forrester. any electric fans about the right size will work, and are usually better than the expensive aftermarket fans, dont believe anyone who tells you altima fans suck and they wont last because they are made to last the life of the car and they flow better than most aftermarket.
look at your clutch, i was gonna get an exedy stage 2 or act w/ heavy duty, but i found an almost brand new exedy stage 1 in my tranny so i am going with that and just replacing the to and pilot bearings. since you are also doing an auto to manual swap, you can pick up a j30 vlsd cheap (make sure it has the 6 bolt stub axles which came in 95-97 j30s) or another silvia vlsd and then get an abs manual ds made up in aluminum or steel to bolt right up with everything (this is what i did). j30=3.9:1 ratio from the 4.08 stock, but this really doenst matter much. its really easy at this time to do an oil filter relocation setup and im doing an oil cooler too. my custom setup with rubber lines shouldnt be any more than 150 for all new parts (thats about what a greddy relocation kit costs, waste of money imo). also, oil pan is a good thing to replace with the engine out. the greddy one is probably ur best bet, i got the greddy copy, and the casting is really porous along with the overall quality and fitment, its barely worth the price. good luck, bryan
