electrical nightmare

long story short...the guy that did my alarm butchered the wiring and after a year the cars alarm is causing the car to not start after it i turn it off without a jump...i look under the dash and have no clue what wires do what and i was wondering if i should bite the bullet and take it to another alarm place and have them figure it out or should i try and take out the alarm myself...if i do this bymyself how should i go about it...thanks

Hi,
If you take it to another alarm place, they will not touch it. Because they do not want to be responsible for trying to patch up another shops work. But they will
try to offer you a fresh alarm install. You should disconnect power to the alarm for the time being. This should fix your problem. Then find a reputable alarm dealer that is an authorized dealer for Viper or some major brand. You are paying for their experience and training. So it is worth the extra money. OR if you have LOJACK in your area, i highly suggest it. Guys here in SOCAL are getting it now because of the rash of 240 thefts we have had. $500 bucks is a great investment when you know it will get your car back. They also have a remote feature that goes onto your keychain that signals if your car has been moved or started without your consent.

If the alarm you have is a DEI product - viper, sidewinder, pyton - then you should be able to unplug the main harness from the brain and the alarm will be totally bypassed. NOTE- this will not work on clifford alarms.
If that does not solve your problems check the wiring and see if you have two brown wires that connect a wire that was cut in half. Most brand name alarms use this color code for starter kill. You can either reconnect the wire into one piece or if you can not access the cut wire, cut the browns and tie them together.
These two methods should get you by until you can get a professional to look at it. I would recommend unplugging it only -easy to fix -if you are unsure of your electronic abilites. Hope this helps you!
