s13 Raceseats/ seatbelt

Hey, Im planning to get race seats for my s13 but I'm not going to get the race harness. Instead, I will use stock seat belts but there is a problem. The shoulder belt is connected to the car but the lap belt buckle is connected to the stock seats. I don't ever wear the lap belt, and is it Ok to do that? I have the automatic seat belt thingie which automatically locks you in when u close the doors. Has anyone done this? Use stock seat belts for race seats, and only use shoulder belt, not lap belt? thx for any replies

if you got in a crash i think your chest would get hurt from only having that one belt. that is if you were going fast

You will die in a serious car crash. The shoulder belt is not meant to be used by itself. If it was, the lap belt wouldnt even be there

Really good point guys, safety first. how hard is it to weld on a piece of metal on to the brackets for the belt buckle. i really dont want to get the harness because im going to be daily driving it, but i really need some new seats. I would get the s14 seats if someone isn't selling them for $300 a pair and lives around the bay area. Also, is there any other way of putting the buckle for race seats?

Yeah, the purpose of the lap belt is to prevent submarining. If you got into an accident, you would slide right under the shoulder belt and into the footwell, crushing your legs along with half of your body.

OKOK, thank you for putting that picture in my head. Thank you very much. Well, I sure don't want that to happen so... like I said, is there a way of welding a piece of metal for the sealt belt buckle? and how much would that cost? how difficult would that be?

its very straightfoward once u get in there and check it out it'll take like 10 seconds for you to figure it out. go for it it shouldnt take u but like an hour or so. if u had a shop do it for u i wouldnt pay more than $25 per seat but its so easy i dont know why you would need a shop anyway

My brother has the Nagasa Auto ( spelling? ) rails and there is a provision for the stock lap belt. In my car I have a Wedge Engeneering bracket and it has a provision for the belt clip. If the seat mounting method you are looking at does not have that I guess you are looking at the side mount race style brackets for mounting your seat. A setup like that is intending for you to have a harness and cage.
I would not run a seatbelt like that, and if a track offical caught you, they would kick you off the track.

I read that the auto seat belts restraining loses 70% of its life saving capability if you don't wear the lap belt, that's why I always wear my lap belt.

Ok, to give you guys more information, they are weapon-r seats with weapon-r brackets. I don't see a place anywhere to bolt up the buckle. There is only one bolt holding the buckle to the stock seats and I think it would be Ok to weld a piece of metal and bolt that thing up. If it's Ok, can some of you guys go look at the buckle on your seats and tell me this is a do-able inexpensive project? I'm getting everything seats, rails, brackets, for $300 good deal right?

Ok well theres your problem! WEAPON-R IS NOT REAL RACE ANYTHING. They are not race seats. $300 would be a good deal, but in this case you are buying absoulte shit so you are paying $300 too much.

So I guess I will just weld on a piece of metal for the seat belt buckle, but everyone's got to admit, s13 seats sucks. Especially because I have the leather ones that got baked hard in the sun and the brackets are starting to rust and I was like... I need some new seats. If people wasn't selling s14 seats for $300,sure I would pick them up, but Im getting new buckets and brackets for 3 bills. And Im not going on the tracks or anything, so no harness needed.

Honestly, don't cut corners with safety.

The seat restraints are probably the most important safety equipment on your car, so how about this...

Don't buy bucket seats
spent that money on S14 seats and some nice harnesses..

Sound good?

there you get safety and a better seat

I just gotta drop my Two Cents on this one. .. .

Typically, you try for the girl, theres hope. .. .you ask her wherther or not the pussy is available 1st night. .. .Opening Yah' mouth period. .. .Point made. Don't ask stupid ass obvious questions that your dinky little mind can honestly handle with a little work involved. .. .Otherwise ~> ~> ~>

Lost all near future hope.

Get the damn harnesses. .. . it only makes sense. .. . plus your nuts will be thanked later.
Nuthin like looking at some good harnesses on a set of good mounted YEEEAH!

Lay off the weed less analogies, more to the point. BTW if you were to run harnesses on the street, go with schroth, only DOT legal harness on the market. If you get a bucket go with a Bride or NAMS(nagisa auto) rail. they have the mounting tab for the lap belt. Get a brix if you want that hold of a bucket with availability to recline. It does work.

SO.. I've decided to listen to you guys and not get the seats... But I did get a good deal on some s14 seats and I will pick em up today. That guy is only selling the seats and rails, so no s14 brackets. can I use s13 brackets with s14 seats and rails?

I would rather have fucked up factory seats, then waste money on "Racing" seats that don't meet any true safety requirements. Hell, just bungee-cord your ass to a milk crate, it'll probably be better then Weapon-R seats.

Yo man,
it's just like those people who wanna put all this power in their engine and don't invest in good brakes to slow their ass down. Do it once and do it right. Either buy a more expensive seat that has the provision for the bracket already built in, buy replacement s13 seats that are in better condition than yours, or buy one s14 seat at a time and save your money until you can afford the other one. Obviously having the seatbelt is important so stop trying to cut so many corners and just suck it up.

omg... today the scariest thing happened to me... this is off topic btw. I was making a left turn on a semi wet street and my car did a freakin 180 right at the intersection. Luckily, I didnt slam into the street pole and all the cars were at red light. Omg... that was some shady stuff.

Congratulations for applying too much throttle around a turn.
