Help!!!: Working out the bugs on SOHC to DOHC and auto to 5-spd.

First off I just did my SOHC to DOHC swap. Also I did a auto to manual swap. It runs fine (other then on knock sensor..I should get the new one tomorrow). But I am having a couple problems. Just for fyi, I bought the car with no engine in it. Its a 90 and was a auto.

The first thing is the power steering, I for some reason dont have any. Since I didn't have a engine in the car before (like a SOHC one) I didn't have a power steering pump. So I bought one used from a guy on another 240 forum. He said it worked. So I get it put it in and I dont have any power steering. Everything is hooked up. Nothing leaks. I just simply dont have power steering. So what should I do? What should I check?

Second is the shifter, In first, third and fifth it hits the center console but goes into gear. If I put the radio trim in its even worse and wont even go into gear. Why in the world is it doing this? I mean when I'm in first third or fifth and I have my hand on the knob my hand would hit the head unit if I had one in. I know the engine and tranny are mount the right way becuase I have everything bolted down. So why in the world is it doing this?

Ok...thats a pic with the radio trim off and in neutral.

This pic is with the radio trim off and in gear. It does go into gear with the radio trim off. If you look close you can see it is touching.

This pic is with the radio trim on and me pushing the shifter forward. I dont go into gear.

If you need more pics I can take some. Anything to get it to work right

Third is a vacuum line. I got the 4 connected that come out of the throttle body. But their is one more...its to the side of the 4 on the TB. It faces to the passenger fender well (sorta) as to the 4 under the TB face to the front of the car. Where does that vacuum line go?

I'll take a pic of what I'm talking about alittle bit later today. If you need anymore info I'll try my best to awnser. Thanks everyone.

Strange. Take pics of the console farther away. It looks a bit crooked in the pictures.

I don't know if it'll make a difference, but is that still the automatic console? The 5spd console might be different, but don't quote me on that. Just a suggestion.

I dont think it's the console. It looks like the shifter is on backwards

on the s13, the auto and manula console piece is the same, minus teh middle part...honestly it appears that the shifter is essentially backward. Take it out and rotate it 180deg and put it back in. Its just held in there with a c-clip.

Ok...I'll try that. My dad put it in. I was working on another something else at the time. So that might be whats up. Though he was the one who took it out too, to get tranny to clear when putting the engine in.

Anymore help with the other questions? The power steering and vacuum line?

is your knock sensor hooked up? sohc didnt have one and i beleive its on the lower harness, so you would have to hard wire it? unless its on the engine harness then im wrong.

you should make shure you have the little washer where the bolt goes. and that the belt is on lol. the washer is like a tiny spacer, and becuase there are holes in that bolt, its needed for that washer to be there, otherwise fluid might not flow depending on how the bolt is aligned. also after installing the washer you may also want to bleed your power steering. its really simple. jack up the frnot of the car a little bit, turn the steerng wheel lock to lock a few times, refill, turn it lock to lock, refill the resiovior till it stops taking more fluid. then do the same witrh the engine on.

for the shiter, my guess is its on backwards

for the vacuum line, if you cant find out where it goes, either a, cap it off, b, find someone else with a ka24de willing to let you check theirs out. im guessing it goes to that vacuum tube or whatever near the air box, but im really not sure,.
good luck
matt

Knock sensor is on the main engine harness.

Find someone with a stock S13 KA24DE setup and check it out. In the meantime, teeing it with the other vacuum lines wouldn't hurt (but blocking it off probably wouldn't hurt either).
