if you need something better than windows movie maker, try going to the store and looking to see what they have. otherwise save up and get adobe premier (or final cut pro if you have a mac). or avid express if you're that gangster

get Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, both are very similar and pretty intuitive. Theres lots of control in each, just takes some patiences to use. Adobe Aftereffects is pretty neat too, as well as Livetype and Motion.

Shake if you are truly a badass and have a few thousand dollars to shell out, but you should know that if you are remotely interested in Shake.

Final Cut Pro baby all the way. You'll just pay out of your ass for it though. Just get banned for talking about how-to pirate software.

Adobe Premier hands down.

iMovie > Movie Maker. All thou WMM is still good for trowing together clips.

For more professional endeavors. Final Cut Pro is based on Avid tech and is much better than Premier. Premier has come down in price. But I think iMoveHD (free with new macs) is as good now.

Unless you are going for pro level(getting paid) iMoveHD or Windows Movie Maker should work fine.
