![]() just a no-brainer.. for some.
i got a powershot sd500 a couple months ago and ive been trying to figure out how to get night shots to actually come out sharp without the flash (lets say im at a show... errrr.. car show at night with no lights. and not allowed to use flash). I know that most, if not all, digital cameras have this problem. I like how the night image looks in the viewscreen but it never comes out the same... so, how do I get a decent night shot without flash and a tripod? do I change the ISO speed? exposure? or am I outta luck? thanks for any help. ![]()

You can bump up your ISO which will shorten your exposure times (and make your image more noisy), but unless you have the hands of a statue, they're still going to come out like shit. |

A good trick is to get one knee and use the other to set the camera on, but this has limitations and isnt as good as a tripod of course.

I'm not much of a photographer, but I do like to take random pictures.
Here is a few tip. Lower your ISO.. Why? It will reduce noise in the pictures, higher iso sitting tend to give out more noise(grid/spots). I use 100ISO for a lot of picture and it works the best. Long exposure... I recommend 5-30 sec long exposure shots, depending on aperture setting. Use a tripod or something to keep the camera stationary. A slight movement will cause the picture to come out very blurry. Thats all I can come up for now. Feel free to ask more questions, I'm sure others will help as well.... No Tripod ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some misc pictures, ask for camera setting if needed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

100ISO, 30 sec exposure @ f6.3. A little over exposed, so I brought it down to 15 sec @ same aperture setting and got this...
![]() Also if your gonna upload some high quality images, Photobucket will lower the quality, I recommend another host, maybe your own webpage host. |

ill try using a lower ISO and longer exposure time.... which basically means i need a tripod.... nice pics... thats what i planned on doing with my camera... car shots at night without the flash and a nice background like san francisco lights. thanks for the help.

the Sony F717 is so awkward looking though and doesn't look very convenient though. though i would definately love something like a Rebel or something with good optical zoom and megapixels and shit. the Canon PowerShot SD550 ELPH seems like the best of both worlds to me though w/ the 7.1MP and 3x optical/4x digital zooms.

It looks like a air plane or something lol. Its not that convenient because the lens is big and the base is moveable. That feature is very useful if your gonna get on the ground or throw the camera up in the air and angle the lens down(good for clubs if your standing on the floor and wanna take a pic of a group). The camera also look very professional so if anyone in inerested in a great camera, let me know..

Consult your camera's manual for how to set it.
