SSAC "Disco Potato" GT28RS?

So i was searching ebay for a gt28rs when I came upon this:
*BAM* Ebay link deleted
It doesnt say garrett on it anywhere, but they claim its a gt28rs. I know SSACs reputation as far as turbos go, but this is damn cheap for a gt28rs, if it really is one. Just wondering, has anyone had any experience with this EXACT turbo? (I know about the other shitty turbos they make). If it really is a dual BB GT28RS, then it seems like it would be a steal.

(also funny how they claim it maxes out at approx 520hp, HAHA out of a GT28)

SSAC lied on this one

Fuckin SSAC is BS. Those turbos are manufactured in China and are crap, which you prolly know already. Form reviews that I read turbos from them usually last like two months if your lucky. They just call it gt28rs to try to trick you into thinking that its a garrett when they dont put garrett in the auction. I think I read somewhere that they have a lawsuit pending agianst them because of this.

damn... Two friends both with ssac turbos that have died? imagine that...

are you for real??? can you give examples, and explain if it wasn't a user error, like bad return line, or not running a turbo timer?

Why would you even be tempted? Something like a turbo is way to important to "go cheap on". I think the price itself should scare you away from buying it. Think about why it would be so cheap. If you search im sure you will find the thread with the one guy that ran ssac or "xspower" turbo for like a day or two iirc the whole thing fell apart and he found out that the housing was held on by glue!

anyhow, ssa is a joke, if you go cheap u might have to go more expensive later on to dig yourself out. stick with the middle or high road.

For the price of that turbo, you could buy it and rebuild it with garrett parts and it still would be cheaper than an actual disco potato.

i ve noticed after one guy posted that the turbo was glued together that every one has a a friend that this happend too, i wouldnt buy their turbos though, i bought a real GT2871R and i did buy a ssac manifold for it, then traded some stuff to get a second one, as a back up for when the first one cracks, cause almost ever style manifold like that will crack some day.

A new chra is about 850 bucks from Garrett which is the only way to "rebuild" a GT series turbo

Yea, gt turbos are not so easily rebuildable as journal bearing t25/t28s. I would not even consider one of those. Ive seen seals go on those after a week, and spit oil everwhere.

I know a few ppl who run SSAC turbos. Dosn't seem like any of them have had any problems with their turbos yet but im sure they aren't as reliable as the real things. One of them has blown their motor though however lol.

I know this about SSAC I bought their mani-downpipe pack for my SR and I have now replaced EVERYONE of their peices. The downpipe never fit in the first place, the flange on the dp-02housing part was askew so it just plain wouldn't fit, try E-mailing them, you'll find out why I had to just eat that one(they reply to NOTHING)
Their "deviated" 02 housing with the seperate path for the wastegate, well I was getting alot of rattling in there so I took the turbo off for the third time (had to I had exhuast leaks between the head and turbo for the 4th time at that point) Found out the little divider plate that they just rivit to the turbo extension tube had come out and was bouncing around in there, 02 housing down, again attemts to contact didn't work.
Turbo manifold: this one is GREAT! after two new SR20DE gaskets and new 300ZX gaskets I still couldn't get a good seal for the gasses before the turbo. So when I took it all off and had to hunt down a new turbo extension anyway I went and had the flanges checked for flatness(is that a word) and came to find out two things 1. they were warped bad. 2. they were mild steel MILD F'N STEEL ON A TURBO MANI!!! They told me they could plane them, but they would just warp again, well I need a mani so I said yeah, plane them I'll make it work. Threw it back in and after 4 times coming in and out two days after I got the manifold back in THE THREADS FELL OUT OF THE FLANGE all four studs fell out of the manifold and dropped my turbo to hang on the downpipe. In the course of about 20mins trying to limp the thing back home.

I would go NA before I put an SSAC turbo on my car. You can't contact them, I looked up their buisness license in their state, the address on there apperatly doesn't exist, the phone number is disconnected, they are as shizty as can be. Good enough for you bargain hunters? I just dropped 1k on a whole new exhuast system(DC mani, Greddy 02, and catless DP) and it could have gone much better places.

Why buy SSAC? Do it right the first time. If you buy one then blow it, you would wish you would have waited/spent a little more and gotten a better product. You get what you pay for. A higher cost turbo will have better build quility, guarantee, warranty, etc.

great comment 1121S13, but there are places that sell genuine products on ebay.

wootwoot and the feeder fish, I said I would rebuild the turbo as in ME.
I purchased a Lot of 6 3GT 3T series turbo rebuild kits for 350+30 only to loose an auction for a gt28rs "disco potato". I used one to rebuild a turbo for turbo man. I am holding out for a genuine potato, but the prices look so tempting @ SSAC

I also purchased Tein HA HR coilovers cause everybodies got'em

As I've done in other SSAC threads

A buddy of mine bought an ebay turbo just for the hell of it. Here is what we got:

Painted Exhaus Housing, with a Cast letter "X" on it. No official numbers or stamps cast into anything, 2 bent studs in the turbine housing, and to mention the thing had shaft play 'factory' Yippee!!!

VS: His real Garrett T3/T4 through an official Garrett Distributor (PW Diesel)

You be the judge. Cheapness will always own you. If you can't afford a real turbo from the start, than you probably shouldn't be boosting, as you've probably half assed on other parts too.

all I have to say is... this is a great thread.

I think this should be stickied personally, because I know there are a ton of people like myself that want to get their ka on some boost, and are tempted by these shitty ebay turbos, and arent sure if they should or shouldn't get one.

seriously, thanks.

this thread cleared up so much for me, and im sure many others.
