On the real I will start off like this, the WRX is a nice looking ride and has a great power plant that has huge potential but we all still have beautiful 240s that w/ the propper work can out handle, out accelerate, and out perform the WRX.

After I did the swap I went out civic hunting (not hard to find 'em in my area) and found a WRX that was willing and waiting. After a he got a jump on me off the line (I had some wheel spin) I caught him fairly easily and pulled ahead.

Now that was just random street shenanagins at the track (road course) front and rear sway bars, coilovers (or a nice spring shock setup) and good tires will put you on the right track to absolutely dismantiling the WRX at the track

As far a auto-x I don't have any experience so I have no clue and won't even front like I know what's up I figure the 'rex would be better because the RWD 240 doesn't like low speed sharp turns (drift pigs ) the ass end loves to come out and get in front of you

Either way they are nice cars just not worth all the hype they get. SR powered 240s are the shit and don't you forget it

first off, the wrx is known for is rally capabilities. It does its best work in the dirt. I know quite a bit about the rally wrx's but as far as the street ones go, i'm not all that sure. But personally i really don't see a whole lot of comparison between the two.

Whats your question? You say "the WRX is a nice looking ride and has a great power plant that has huge potential" well you partly answer the title to this thread. The WRX isn't that hyped IMHO, but what do you expect it's the only cheap turbo import that you can buy brand new.

How many people are going to actually use it for that. Everyone knows the worthness of the 'rex in the dirt but we my friend live in a world full of asphalt. That's where the shit goes down here

the WRX is the most easily upgradeable turbo equiped car since the mid 90's with the RX7, SupraTT, 300ZXTT, etc. but yet you can get into a WRX for what, 24k? c'mon, you can't deny it's sweetness. my 98 240 se was about 24k new, and the WRX would rip me a new asshole. that race where you supposedly walked away from him from, i'm gonna call shinanigans. assuming you got a redtop and no other mods (the only way you can even slightly justify comparing the 2) you should have what, 205hp at best? WRX has you beat by 22hp i think. i know it's heavier than you are, but it should also get a better launch. in the end i would say that it should be a very close race, so i doubt the WRX guy was trying very hard.

and that whole thing about "dismantling" the WRX at the track is a load of horseshit as well. you can't compare a stock WRX against a 240 with all that suspension work. lets equally equip both cars and see what happens shall we?

in conclusion, you're not as sweet as you think you are.

You my friend can call shenanigans but I don't have a stock redtop (I have no idea what all he had)

And call me cheap (or broke as shit) But 24k is a lot of money to me! I took the money I was going to use to buy a WRX and just put it into the redtop and mods

Once I get to take some new pics of my baby modded I will post (can't wait to get her dyno'd) But I know for a fact I am making more hp than a WRX.

I love starting shit! Can I help it if my car is fast

For the love of God Dragon, shrink your sig!!! Half of this thread has been that bigass pick of your wrx (with a lot of border)

Anyhow, down to business. I don't think anybody could knock the WRX if they knew what they were talking about. $23k for that power and handling is unheard of from any other manufacturer. Needless to say, my (other) sister will be leaving her rex for me to play with for a coupla weeks, and I'll gladly park my s13 for that time.

WRX is way better than the 240SX, stock for stock. You have to put alot of money to get a 240 at the same level or better than a WRX. Thats time and alot of patience. The WRX is a good car and the aftermarket is nice....real nice . I love does projector lights, and STi wing (WRC wing). I won't even touch the mechanical upgrades.

VW, Golf 1.8t and Jetta 1.8T.. Easily moddable, and in my opinion, better lookin than the wrx. and the Audi TT has a 220bhp turbo engine (same engine in the VW's but w/ more boost.)

I often see wrxs on the road... and from constant looking at them i don't see anything special except for a 4wd and a turbo.... there is no beauty in it. So you can call me biased or whatever, but i'd rather turbo my 240...

WRX's rule................skylines rule, GTI's rule, Renaults rule,..... ooo ya 240s rule...
The thing is there are a lot of car that kick ass and all of them get attention so I dont see why you are labelling just the WRX.
Being the WRX gives out equal performance if not better then most of the those car but at only 24k there you can see why a lot of people are excited about it.
If you put a equally modded(doesnt matter on the amount of mods) S13 and a WRX together the wrx would probably always win... that is unless you were having a drift contest. Well, I dont event know about that cause awd drive drifts are pretty cool.
I guess in conclusion I dont see way people need to be negative towards another car for any reason..

From my experience of going to the drag strip I have seen a couple of WRX's with no visible mods, i.e. no exhaust, one put down a 13.4, the other was a sport wagon WRX and it ran 13.6.

They are pretty quick cars, and I like the awd for on the dirt, ice and snow. My first car was a 4wd Subaru, so I am kind of partial to them.

Drive a WRX around a corner at 90mph and you'll understand, i can't explain it to you. I was going to get one but i don't have enough money so i got a 240. hehe, Subaru's got a kick ass AWD system and that horozontally opposed engine balances out just like they say.

I must say...the WRX is one badass car...There's nothing like the sound of a turbo boxer engine...Here's a couple of snaps of my friend's WRX with a CWest body kit, 18" Dronell wheels, and Scooby Sports headlights:

I think the body kit looks nice, but I don't care much for it only because I'm a rally fan, and it makes the car look more "GTish". And I still think I like the STI headlights a lot better...Well, actually the WRC headlights would be the coolest...hehe...ALL KABAN FIBAH!

Easily moddable, and in my opinion, better lookin than the wrx. and the Audi TT has a 220bhp turbo engine (same engine in the VW's but w/ more boost.)

Just FYI, the Audi TT Quattro has a 1.8T engine putting out 225hp, with a K04 turbo and twin SMIC setup.
The VW 1.8T engines (found in the GTi, Golf and Jetta) put out 180hp and has a 1.8 K03 turbocharged single SMIC setup.

I'm not sure if the TT's actually running that much more boost, but the fact that it's got a bigger turbo probably makes up the majority of the larger (225) number.

"chipping" (aftermarket ECU that basically bumps the boost to ~1.1 bar) kicks HP and Torque of the VW 1.8T engines to ~ 200hp and 230lb/ft. That's a big jump for a ~550 dollar chip! And yes, that's a LOT of torque!

edit: I think that's an ugly body kit... just MHO. There are other WRX headlights that I prefer to your friends, as well as the WRC ones too... I like the heads on the black soob posted earlier by dragonreborn.
soobs are nice. I took a ride in a WRX wagon for a canyon run and I swear, that thing stuck to the road like nothing else!

They are pretty quick cars, and I like the awd for on the dirt, ice and snow. My first car was a 4wd Subaru, so I am kind of partial to them.

Hmmm if iirc, there are very few mods you really need to turn up the boost if you already got a turbo... and exhaust isn't the easiest nor the most needed one, you can turn up the boost with a stock exhaust.... So there is your explanation....

Well I look at it and it's not that bad.... but then i remember the way my 240 looks and a wrx starts looking like crap.... I mean the car isn't ugly, but if you look at it, there is nothing that really catches your eye or excites you about it.... so unless you know it's performance stats, you don't see more than a sedan in it i guess.... after all it does have 4 doors

Okay - First - the sig has GOT to shrink. That is awful!

I stand by my belief that the WRX is one of the ugliest cars on the road today. It IS a tremendous out of the box value in terms of performance - but so is a Moosetang. My favorite thing about it is that it is ONE car that had all that JDM hype bs surrounding it that we got - and it sells.

As for an SR beating a Rex - I think that is totally possible. Despite having a hp advantage and more traction off the line, the Subies have MASSIVE parasitic drivetrain loss. That alone is enough to make the hp/tq numbers about equal. Given the weight advantage of an s13, I think it is very believable.
