240sx Ka24 Help!!!

Ok, I just got this car from a trade Christmas Eve. Since I got it, it ran a little wierd but never broke down. At lights sometimes a little gas RPM's will drop and try to stall. So you have to ease on the gas lightly and start slow. Also driving at low RPM it would kind of surge.

Yesterday going to my girlfriends house I turned in her driveway (uphill) and got on the gas a little. It shut off. I tried to start it up wouldnt start. So I rolled back down her driveway to a parking lot. She came down and we checked for spark. Spark was fine. So that made me think fuel related. You can hear the pump primer. Still no start. So then I got mad and banged the pump with a hammer, it started and stalled. Then I banged it again harder and it started, but was running really rough. Sounded like it was ticking like an exhaust leak. I had it running enough to get back to her house.

I changed the fuel pump, still the same. Checked to see if the fuel filter was clogged. No, gas came out hard and clean.

Checked spark plugs, they were pretty dirty. Wet and smelt like gas. Now I started the car after cleaning them. It started. I ran it and revved it up high. It smoothened out from the 3 cylinder feeling. It was running on four. After that it idled fine but small gas it bogged down.

I shut it off and it wouldnt start back. So I took plugs back out. Cleaned again, car sputtered but didnt fully start. Could a sensor be bad causing the car to foul the plugs do to too much gas and not enough air?

After all that though I have a new problem. I was going to throw new plugs in and see, but now the car wont turn over. It ticks really fast. Like coming from the starter. What now?! Starter relay? Starter itself? Battery? Any ideas or help? Any pics of a KA24E with the sensors labeled? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

bad fuel injectors?

can you tell were the ticking is coming from btw. try using a stethascope and listening around the valve cover. it might help solving the problem

check coolant temp sensor, check injectors, check MAF.

Check all the connectors to those things first.

my old motor did the same thing...it was running way too rich, and 2 fuel injectors were bad. my plugs kept getting fouled. and for the starter ticking sound, does the car battery have enough power to start? maybe cuz you kept trying to crank the motor, the battery was getting drained...check the fuses and run a continuity test on the starter relay, or swap it out with another one in your engine bay if you think its a bad relay...and good luck

Ok thanks for the replies. The ticking sound like it is on 3 cylinders goes away when it is revved high, but now I cant even get it started to work from there. I will check all the things mentioned and get back to you all. Thanks!

Update. Car runs now. Battery was dead. Got a new one. I drove it home and it drives, but low RPM's it boggs and will try and stall if you push the gas too hard. This happens when warm or cold. I swapped MAF and TPS sensors. Any other ideas? The cleaner the plugs better it runs. I keep cleaning the same ones. Would new ones be good? lol. Any ideas?

dats good to hear...you should replace and regap the plugs but also check the coolant temp sensor cuz these would usually make the car run bad or even stall when the motor is warm or cold. and if they still keep getting fouled, ur motor is either running way to rich or way too lean, you can tella by the color. it also would be good to check the connections to the MAF, TPS, or the injectors cuz these often get corroded...

Connectors look good and I cleaned them. Where is the coolant temp sensor? The plugs looked black everytime, but now they look like a little white on them. Black is rich right? What is white? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.
