Hey, I bought those easy fit heater hoses from Heavy Throttle. The motor's already in the car, and I can't tell just by looking at them which one goes where. Heavy Throttle had a picture on their site I thought showing where they go, but I can't open it anymore. Anyone else maybe have a picture to help me out?

ummm, you can't really get to the lines coming from the motor with the engine in the car.... so either way good luck to you sir

i put them in after i had the motor in... (my ghetto setup) so im sure he can too...

i'd be willing to wager my setup is more ghetto... but i sure wouldn't want to try to put them in with the engine in.

Its not that hard to get them on with the engine in. Its not that easy either though! lol

As for the hoses. The one that has the 180 degree turn goes onto the pipe on the back on the engine facing towards the passenger side, the L shaped hose goes from the top connection on the firewall to the 180 degree hose. Use the connector provided to hook them together, you will probably need to trim one of the hoses to clean it up some. The other hose goes on the lower firewall connection to the pipe coming out under the intake. Remove the valve cover to get more room to reach the pipe on the back of the engine. Also spray a little WD40 inside the hoses and it will go on allot easier.

Yeah that kit isn't hard at all to get in with the motor in, just takes alotta patience and the motivation of 15 degree weather outside, lol

I was able to install new heater hoses with the motor in the car. A couple of tips for you:

* The Heavy Throttle kit consists of the following parts:

1) One 3/4" U hose.
2) One 5/8" L hose.
3) One 3/4" S hose.
6) One 3/4" to 5/8" reducer.
7) 6 hose clamps.

1/2/6 are used for the upper heater hose. 3 is for the lower. The upper hoses need to be trimmed to fit, and fit with no problems once you mount them.

The lower hose #3 is the one that is the problem. This is Gates part number 19606. The specs for this part is below for your reference.

As you can see below, this part is 3/4" throughout. The JDM SR nipple is 3/4", but since the USDM heater core is 5/8", this will not work. I installed this part and the hose was leaking at the heater core because it was 1/8" too large.

What I had to do was to make a custom hose, using a 3/4" to 5/8" reducer. The lower hose that was supplied with the kit was useless.

$35 + shipping is a good price if you don't want to piece together your own kit, but since the lower hose was useless to me, it wasn't worth it to me. You can get the U, the L, and the reducer for probably $15-20. Add a few more bucks for clamps and you're good to go.

I'm not knocking Heavy Throttle at all. I'm just commenting on their products from what I saw. They should really redo the lower hose for the kit.

man heater hoses can suck on sr swaped 40's. went getto first but started to leak 7 months later. it can be done after the engine is in but drink up and take your time and do it right the first time around.

Sure thing. The U is Gates 19666. The L is Gates 28467. You can find the nearest retailer near you here: http://www.gates.com/automotive/dist...ocation_id=539

The 5/8" to 3/4" reducer is just a standard hard plastic reducer you can get at any auto parts store. Same goes for the hose clamps.

Since everybody thinks that this is a difficult job (wasn't that difficult, just frustrating), I am completely redoing the heater. I am going to order a new heater hose, and have a shop weld on 3/4" fittings instead of the 5/8" fittings that normally come on the US-spec car. Then I will order a metre of Samco 3/4" Superflex hose and cut them to length.

I'll keep you guys updated of how it works out.
