Ok so I'm out on the road today and pull into a shopping center. BEAR IN MIND I HAVEN'T DRIVEN MY 240 IN ALMOST 9 MONTHS!! and this guy I vaguely know walks up to me and says what's up. I've talked to him once or twice back when I had my 240 on the road. and he knew a bit about cars too. not a ricer in the least. we get on the subject of cars and he asks me if I still have my 240sx. not pressed about it or nothing, just chit-chatting. out of nowhere this kid sitting at a table near where we are talking goes "Man you have a 240?!?! thats cool. I am saving up for one so I can put a skyline motor in it and go drift" So I go "oh skyline motor, cool. not too many of those running around" (sarcastically I might add) and he goes "yeah its a direct swap but its so expensive and hard to get nobody does it, especially the R34" I reply "damn dude. that will be cool as shit. I bet that will drift pretty damn well too" to which he replies "yeah its the perfect car for drifting. thats why anybody who knows anything about drifting drifts a 240sx" so I go "cool man, well I gotta run. see ya later" and he goes "yeah maybe I'll see you drifting at the next drift event. do you know when one is" I go "nah sorry dude"

some kids (maybe 10-13 years old) who live in my apt complex came up to me while i was workin on my car and started askin me questions.
first it was "do you race"
then "do you have nos" cuz of the buttons on my steering wheel
then "how much is nos? like 5000 a bottle?"
then they proceeded to tell me what happens if you have too much nos (f&f recap)
then they asked where i race and they were disappointed when i told them on the track.
then they noticed my car was a nissan and exclaimed "oh! this is a nissan?!?"
then they talked to each other about how skylines "aren't allowed"
then they talked to each other about drifting
THEN FINALLY they asked me if i drift.
then they told me they thought i was an underground racer
then they asked me why my muffler tip is blue.
then i packed up my tools and went inside cuz it was getting annoying.

A bunch of times people ask me while im getting in my car, or gasing up if i have a SR20, or if i drift.... its like a automatic question when someone looks at my car then looks at me... kinda stupid

ive had some random kids IM me and ask me all these questions about 240's and stuff... Some of these people just got their license and start telling me their plans and stuf... UGH soooo annoying... One kid who was going to buy some used rear rotors i had told me he was gonna come by to pick it up... then he told me the next day, o i paid a shop to change my rear rotors for 150 thx anyways (wow learn how to work on ur car dumb f*$%).. then starts asking me if i race my 240, and if i want to join his racing team that hes making with all 240s...

another kid... was asking me if he should buy this 180sx imported and stuff with a sr20 that was for sale, or buy us 240 and get it swapped with a supra motor cus he can be faster yada yada yada.. he said sr20s are slow... =/ (WTF??). another day he told me he heard a SR20 swap was illegal and i told him yea its not legal, and majority of mods will either not pass visual or emissions test esp in ca....week or two later he tells me he bought a car... his dad bought a 90 240 fast back for $2900 with 190,000 miles, it had a salvage title, and is really f**#ed up, he told me it gets really bad gas milage, and it leaks gas or something cus it goes to 1/2 a tank when it sits there over the weekend... He said his dad could have got a 95 teal 240 for 4000 but since he didnt like the color he didnt buy it... HOW effing stupid is that... 2900 for a 90 240 with a SALVAGE tite! MY GOD... Im pretty sure he nagged and nagged his dad for a 240.. and he just bought the first one he saw to shut him up or something...

What also gets me really pissed off is all these "drifting blogrings" on xanga.. (yes i have a xanga... dont hate cus u proll have one as well! lol..) majority of people, not all in these blogrings are kids that dont have their license yet or even own a car, and talk and act they can drift and know how just cus they watch ID and play the ID arcade game... Just makes me cringe when i see they write in expertize.. "drifting" "clutch kick" "brake drift" "inertial drift" etc etc etc and u see DOB.. 1988 or 1989 even worse 1990

2 weekends ago i was working for HP at frys, and i saw some kid that was proll a freshman in HS that was looking at the printers, he had a yokohama landard, and a drifting shirt taht said always drive it sideways or something... a yokahama hat with a yokohama sticker on the top of the billl... I was about to tell him he was mad jdm tyte but i was working with my manager and didnt want to upset a customer in front of him...

yes it's getting worse. i've had a few people approach me in person. this never happened once last year. mind you my car basically looks 99% stock.

edit: to answer the question asked, it's like the whole import car community is in high school trying to be in the cool club. hell, you can extend it much farther. personally, i'm sick of asian kids who spend all their money on trendy dkny and banana clothes and flaunting $500 cell phones. i'm also sick of poser white boys trying to act hard like they're from the ghetto when they came from rich white suburbia. i'm sick of people in general trying to make themselves feel better using age-old split between 'haves' and 'have nots.' this applies to alot of arrogant 240sx owners as well.

Sometimes i'll see the blue headlights trying to catch up to me in traffic, and once they do they'll stare at me until i look over, and go hey is that turbo? Do you drift? I just say no and blow off in their face.
I've also had many drive thru people ask me the samem questions. I like the compliments when they say nice car, but the stupid questions just get annoying.

Sometime to punish myself I go on to drifting.com and browse through the posts there. Its like reliving every stupid conversation I've had over again. Must be my narcassistic tendencies.

I get so many stupid questions from rice boys about my WRX I just tell people I have no idea and its my dads car and he lets me borrow it once in a while. Rather than trying to spend 9 hours explaining why my intercooler is ON TOP of the engine and I'm not running NAWS.

With the 240 its even worse. I usually just completely ignore people or just claim ignorance and pretend I have no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah, I dunno, it's hard to even find a clean, stock 240 nowadays. Seems like everyone is buying them, doing all kinds of modifications, and then realizing they can't deal with a car that ACTUALLY needs to be worked on, so they sell it. Or they are so obsessed with drifting that they end up crashing or beating the cars to shit. It kind of sucks that they are all butchered. I'm safe with the cars I have now, they're too rare to ever be bandwagon cars.

haha I had a similar situation at mason a couple weeks ago. I parked a place I normally don't park b/c of traffic, so when I pulled in I thought I smelled something a little burning (I was at a bottom of a small hill). I opened up my hood, looked at my intake and the temp sensor that was disconnected, then some dude on top of the hill was looking at my engine. Then he approached me, and with one of the most retarded voices you can think of, he was like "aarrr, thas a nice set of mods thar!." Me: "Thanks, but I really didn't do much to it... just a few bolt ons." Him: "uhh aarrrr, "I plan to do the same. I want a sway bar like yours, and cold air intake!" Me: "Uh, that's a strut tower bar. And sure cold air intakes are pretty good I guess...". Then when I walk up the hill I find out he has one of those 94-97 white corollas that looks beat up and ugly as shit. And then he goes to it and is like "Eerrrr, I need a stiffer suspension! It's really soft... I want to hook up my car with aftermarket parts." Then I told him about Robbie's new store and how he can get really cheap prices, also the coilover GB and how he can get K-sports for cheap so he won't have to deal with his blown shocks. He said maybe but i knew he was all talk and wasn't going to get any. Why do people have to waiste my damn time :angry: . Seriously I hate it when ppl say they are going to sup up their car or bullshit just to seem cool somehow.

EDIT: about the 240sx bandwagon. When I bought mine a year ago I barely even knew was a 240sx was. My dad and bro suggested it to me, and at that time I didn't even know 240sx's existed. At that time I didn't know anything about cars at all (I was driving a beater 92 Civic). After I bought my 240, I became obsessed about 240s and cars in general. I read up on forums and car websites everyday, and still do. After I drove the 240 and felt how much faster than it was than the Civic, became determined to make it faster.

I never really got too much attention with my old coupe. But now with the new one and the silvia front I have to beat people away. My favorite part in the near future is going to be a silvia body with my KA-T in it. I should start video taping when kids look at it and say "nice SR".

When I had my old beater 240 with just a race clutch (6-pad ACT I think) and my HKS HiPer exhaust (I look back and find it ricey on my sohc). Well, I was cruising out to get ice cream and milkshakes with my girlfriend and we come to a stop light. This dude in a 3000GT VR-4 (really nice one too) pulls up and starts revving at me, I turn to the girlfriend "Want to see a really fast car beat me?" her, "Sure, why not." Light turns green, I blow him away simply by not burning the hell out of my tires and slipping my clutch all night. I'm surprised as hell, but I figure he's just a dumb ass driver and shrug it off. Pulling into the ice cream place, I park and start walking in to get food. The guy in the VR-4 pulls up, parks next to my car and is like, "Holy shit! Do you have the SR? That car is seriously fast!" I say, "No, it's a sohc KA with a blown head gasket." "Yeah right, let me see it!" Look at girlfriend, she's "GO ahead, I'll meet you inside." Show him the shit engine, even wipe some of the oil off the side to show him it's crap and say, "AWD should launch better, maybe you need to practice driving?" He says, "Oh, I have new 18's and those tires are damn slippery..." I say, "Yeah, you shouldn't be going nuts then, you know what's wrong, you have a fast car, now learn how to drive it." Then I bought a strawberry shake, it was delicious.

When I'm out working on my car, I get people walking by asking, "hey man, you want to sell that?", giving me their number and stuff. It's kinda sketchy, I'm always afraid they're going to come back and steal it. Hasn't happened yet, thankfully.

Of course, when I actually did want to sell my old fastback, where were those fools? Oh yeah, they were the ones that offered to pay me in installments. hahahaha. assclowns.

The only real disappointing part of all this "bandwagon" business is simply the high turnover rate of people in the community. So many newbie owners asking endless stupid questions, then either selling the car off because it didn't live up to the hype, or crashing it, or pushing yet another veteran owner over the edge and forcing them to sell their car in frustration, creating another newbie owner, and the cycle continues...

I'm like you DO know the Kouki front end was soold here too right? the last guy that said this has had his car for years and an SR swap for at LEAST a year and a half. he siad it and I was so shocked I just couldnt believe it. I mean he's always struck me as a ricer. more a show car than anything else but I was like "wow" couldnt believe it.
