Antifreeze leak!!

Ok, for a few months now my temp gauge would spike every once in a while after I started driving the car a few miles. Today, it got worse, the temp gauge hit the H and stayed there a few miles. I was on my way to work and I had no choice but to keep going. I had bought a new thermostat a while back but just never had a chance to put it on (or kept forgetting). I replaced it this evening, and after I was finished, I cranked it to make sure it was ok. I let it sit idle for a few minutes and when I backed up the car, antifreeze was gushing like crazy. I double checked the hose going to the water jacket over the thermostat to make sure I had a snug fit, but it looked more like it was coming from the water pump area. How could this be happening? It wasn't leaking before I changed the thermostat. I'm praying that I didn't crack the block on my way home. I drove it about 10 minutes while the temp gauge was at the H. Any thoughts/ideas?

The water pump has a weep hole on top. If it leaks, then you need a new water pump. When I replaced my water pump, I used a pepboys silicone gasket and it started to leak after the car was warmed up. I got some nissan silicone and it's been good ever since. I would say check the thermostate housing again because that is the only piece you should have removed.

Pressure testing the coolant system FTW. But if that is not possible I would say that it is leaking from the thermostat housing. The weep hole should not be gushing coolant...Also did you bleed the coolant system of air or just fll it up and go?

Just filled it up. I got a new thermostat housing gasket and used RTV to make sure it had a good seal.
