DIY: Valve cover hotness

Hey everyone, I did a search to see if there were any tech articles on here on how to do the valve cover. Didnt find one, so heres mine!!!!

I just did this yesterday It only took me about 3.5-4 hours of work to get it done, plus you gotta add in the waiting.....

well here it is. My KAe head was really shitty looking with all that nasty black textured paint all over it. I tried to use a steel wool pad to start getting some of the paint off of it. I was successfull in that, but it was taking forever and my arm was getting really tired of scrubbing it.

So I went to the zone and got some pait and I noticed some stuff called Aircraft Striper Remover, or something. I purchased that also.

So, all you will need for this is some painters tape, tools to remove and replace the cover, your fav color paint, and that remover.

tape up important areas of the cover and make sure that you dont get any up inside the intake tube thing.

heres a pic of the remover in action

Ok, so now let it sit for about 30 mins, and check on it every once and a while.

With the Remover, the paint starts to peel back and you will notice the goop starts to get very foamy.

Once the remover has done its thing, take a piece of steel wool and some rubber gloves and wash al that nastyness off of there. It may take a while and there will be some paint still stuck on there, but if you have to spray it with remover again and scrub it off w/ the wool, and your good to go to the next step.

Now you have to tape up the parts you want to not have paint on them. I wanted the 2400 16-valve logo to be painted, so I only taped the intake tube, the oil filler hole, the NISSAN logo, and the underside of the cover.

Ok, now for the next step,

Spray the cover with ur engine enamel paint. To do this get a very light, but even coat first so that the next layers have something to stick to. I did 3 coats and it turned out nice. Be sure to pull the tape off after you let the paint set for 3 hours but still a little wet or else you will risk peeling off paint.

Now just give her a good wash and its good to go! But dont put it on the engine for a few days, so that the paint has time to totally cure.

Pretty easy stuff!!

Lemme know if uve got any questions.
