Unhappy Gas tank removal........

Hello everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone has ever had to remove their gas tank do to a leak. A drove me car a couple of days ago and noticed that gas was pouring out from under the car!!! At first thought it was a fuel line or something that might have come lose but I was wrong. There is a nice size slit in the tank. I have had no luck locating a new gas tank. The only place I could get one from is the Nissan dealership and you can only imagine how much they want for one!!! My mechanic is going to charge me around $700+ for parts and labor!!! Have any of you guys been down this road? Sorry for ranting on but I guess im just kinda depressed about this Words of encouragement are greatly appreciated.

well do you have a s13 or s14. S13 are a little easier to fix than s14's since they are metal. S14's have like plastic gas tanks.

I have an s14. I didnt know that the tank was plastic. So I pretty much have no choice but to replace it I have a 99 Nissan Maxima that is fixed up pretty nicely but yet I have been daily driving my 95 240sx (which is stock other than coilover and intake) up until this happened. And well, I would like to continue driving my 240. I guess you know its love when you would rather spend money on a car thats messed up so you can drive it, rather than just driving the car with no problems and saving money. I love my 240sx!!!

Check out Hysol. It is an adhesive made by 3M. Its pretty great for just about anything, and if you check out the datasheet, it has "excellent" chemical, oil and fuel resistance. You might be able to seal up the crack if it isn't too big. Also, make sure to completely drain and clean the crap out of the area of the tank that you apply the Hysol to.

i had a leak in my S14's tank over the winter and ended up having to replace it. luckily had a friend with a parts car who sold me the tank out of that car for $50, and then another friend who worked at a dealership who helped with the install. it wasn't insanely hard, but having a lift and proper tools made a huge difference.

It's not bad, but you do have the drop the subframe first to get to it.
