First time vacuum leak test. Need advice
The engine is idling at 600 rpm and responds so slow to gas pedal input. So I need to do a vacuum leak test. This is my very first time doing this.
The instruction on the vacuum guage says that I need to hook it up to vacuum source port. Problem is that, because I took out all the emission related things including the charcoal canister, most of my vacuum lines (the ones that run underneath intake manifold) are disconnected from engine. To do this test, where should I hook this vacuum guage to? |

Haha, you answered your own question.
You more than likely have a vacuum leak on one of the nipples from your EGR stuff that you forgot to plug up. 1. To find a vacuum leak, run the engine and spray carb cleaner around your intake manifold. 2. When the engine revvs up (since the carb cleaner is combustable) you've found your leak. 3. Try to spray in a systematic way so that you can narrow down exactly where the leak is coming from.

I know that and that's why I confused.
My EGR is plugged already and IACV hose and valve cover hoses are connected to intake pipe. Instead of carb cleaner, I would like to use the vacuum guage. Any one know where to plug this guage in a situation like this? Last edited by jafero; 03-04-2007 at 04:24 PM.. |

Dont you need your iacv hooked up to your intake pipe? And your not supposed to block the valve cover hose at least put a little filter on it so it can breath.

You probably missed a plug. Just go back over the manifold.
ANY nipple on the manifold with the right size fitting can go on the guage. Buy another vacuum line and plug it into a plugged line.

Nameguerro, I will go over the tubes again. One question, EGR temp sensor is not hooked up. Is this O.K if EGR is disabled and is two holes on the EGR body are blocked? |
