i dunno, they brought the RS6 over to compete with the M5 and it basically kicks ass....TT v8, 450hp! looks good to, i really like their stuff, but the they go and pull a mercedes, and rob us of that ever so sweet six speed that they have in europe, and make the car AUTOMATIC only :eh, its jsut my opinion, but auto's are so boring to me, and it just seems like a waste of a great car...but ive also heard they are going to shoehorn that V8 into the A4 for the RS4 and bring the stick this time....i wish i had money, *sigh*

I thought the correct answer was "Because they're nothing but a glorified VW!"

I'm so disappointed...

Hey, VW are sweet rides. Look at the Golf R32.

3.2 Liter, 6 cylinder, All wheel drive, with 241 hp @ 6250 and 236 torque @ 2800. Now thats a sexy machine.

IIRC: The S4 is biturbo and the a4 is just turbo or n/a. The S4 kicks, especially with the 6 speed.

Now that doesn't sound right to me at all. I thought it was a typo, went to check and 3 sites are listing that it's at 2800... so i guess it's the correct level.... Now basicly by the time you are halfway towards your max hp you are loosing shit load of torque..... hmmm anyone can clarify this?

See, the thing is, you aren't losing a shiteload of tq. b/c it peaks, then stay up there until the hp takes over. Smooth!

On the other hand, in under 40K mi. the thing will be a typical Wolfsburg rattle trap. Audis and Vdubs are great new - but by 50K mi. they make Ford's build quality look like a Benz!

Hey, I resent that statement! (that after 50k it'll be rattling like a ford) ... If you have a MkIII (1998/1999 and earlier) yes, you may have problems, but the 2000+ MkIV J/G (and B5 passats) seem to be very well built. Basically, you're getting Audi quality for a whole lot less than what you'd pay for an audi (in a VW).

kreator - audis and VWs are known to have peak torque really low down; this is partly done by using v. small turbos that are fully spooled by 3-4000 rpm.

uh huh - I bet every generation VW owner says that when he buys the new one and then realizes it is the same POS as the last generation... It just takes a few years to put the miles on and have it start falling apart. Well - at least they cut down the number that burst into flames after the first few years of the A3's.

It's funny - I looked at buying a used Jetta GLi 16v back in about 1993. I couldn't believe how much they wanted for that clapped out old sh!tbox until I realized it was only two years old! I'd never seen a two year old car that was so distraught.

I've a friend who got a Jetta in 2000 as a grad. school graduation present - it was in the shop for two weeks after about 6 mos. of ownership. I still don't trust'em!

Ehh... thats the first time I hear VW's being poorly build.

Like I mentioned before, my father's friend has an old Golf that has over 500,000 km on it without anything other then an oil change done to it. The thing still runs strong.

You have to keep in mind, most of the North American VW models are built in Mexico, which = crap. But the European models are usually build in Wolfsburg, Germany, which = quality.

... well, I'll let you know what my opinions are when I've driven another 33,000 miles.
With a 1.1bar chip (KKK K03 "sport" turbo) and CAI my trusty 1.8T has been running strong for the past 17k miles... and I have to say, it's given me a lot less problems than my 240. Granted though, that the 240 has maybe 7 times the mileage of the VW and is 8 years older.

The plant in Puebla, Mexico is still fully operational and churning out huge numbers of cars. Most US-spec Golfs and Jettas are built there, as well as all New Beetles, and OLD Beetles. Some of the high end VR6 cars and I think the wagons come from Germany, as well as the Passats and most Audis.

The Puebla facility is just as nice as the Wolfsburg facility. It's not as spic and span as the Dresden factory where they build the Phaeton, but these are $15000 Golfs, not $80000 Phaetons

There really isn't any difference in quality between the different factories.

My 89000 mile Mk3 GTI has only one rattle, and it was caused by a poor repair... the last time someone removed the driver's door panel, they didn't do a 100% job. By the way, it was removed to fix the power window regulator which has been a VW failure point since power windows first become available. The car is otherwise extremely solid. It was built in Puebla.

I've never heard a GLI described as a shitbox before I'd kill for one. Just test me, man.
