S14 Digital Climate Control Problems

I have been following the guide on http://www.chuonthis.com/cars/s14-dcc/ and currently have most everything wired up except for the sensors and fan control amp.

I turned the car on just to see the climate control light up but nothing happened - Just a blank screen. So I used the test light on the 12v source coming from the radio harness and the 5v source from the air mix door motor and both worked.

Can someone please tell me what are the minimum wires that need to be connected just to make sure the unit turns on and is in working order?
