New battery wont start

My battery died a few months ago. Car sat for a while bought a new battery, now the car won't start. Any ideas? Its trying to crank over. Thought I needed gas since I was way below E. Still doesn't turn over.

Get a stick and bang it on the started then try again. Also get a volt meter to check to see if the battery has at least 10-12 volts.

could it be the starter? i thought my battery died a couple days ago. i would turn the key in the ignition and it would make a couple "static-like" noise and my car wont start. checked the battery at autozone and the battery was completely fine. my car needs a new starter, maybe urs does too. hope this helped.

check your rotor button, dist. cap, plug wires, and spark plugs in that order. Listen for your fuel pump if you don't hear it disconnect the line at the filter and check if it is pumping. I would do this free and easy stuff before you go spending money or pulling parts. 90% of the time it is one of these when the car is trying to start but won't.
