Question for those rockin a turbo timer and an aftermarket alarm...

Say that you take your key out the ignition and you arm your alarm while your turbo timer's counting down... when the engine finally turns off, doesn't your alarm automatically unlock your doors? I'm curious, because I'm in the market for an alarm, and I heard some alarms do that. Anyone know if thats true, or what alarms do that or what not?

so lemme get this straight... you have to stand somewhere in sight of your car and wait till the car shuts itself off before you can arm it? damn, that sucks... lol.

care to tell me what alarm you went with?

the thing is that the only way for the alarm to know that u left the car is by open and close ur door after u turned off car . if the ignition is ON (car running or ignition on) and u open ur door the alarm is not going to automatic lock the car after 30 sec unless the door trigger the alarm, that can be fix pretty easy with a relay or a DEI timer , timer need to send a pulse to door trigger right after turbo timer turn car off(because the door is allready close)

There are alarms that will lock the car automatically and arm up. Ive seen people use those. Turbo timer running, leave and lock the car. When the turbo timer shuts off, there will be a few seconds delay till the car arms itself. Its great for that reason but annoying when your working on your damn car.

There are some nice alarms that have a built-in turbo timer function, so you don't have to worry about your alarm not being armed after the tt is done running. I'd reccomend on of these setups. Clifford makes some nice stuff you may want to check out.

I also think there is an accesory wire for turbo timers on some alarms, or remote start function (idealy the same).

But I am NO alarm expert by any means.

I would just have to manually lock my doors, if I wanted the alarm on I would have to wait until the TT turned the car off. If I armed it while running it would just set the alarm off. <-(I know common sense)

I had a pager system and my remote had like a 1 mile radius or something so I just had to wait to arm my alarm for the 30 seconds it takes... I mean after I turned off the ignition and get out of the car and fuck around getting whatever I need out, it only has like 10-15 seconds left anyways.

It was Clifford alarm BTW, can't remember the model, but I opted to NOT use the bullhorn alarm thing, so the only way I knew it's going off is by the pager remote. This was in my last turbo B series honda BTW, not the nissan... the nissan has an alarm but it's junk.

The doors should lock and stay locked. The alarm unlocking your doors is based on turning the key off not on the engine shutting off. So the doors unlock and the timer starts at the same time.

I take my key out, the doors unlock/timer starts, I get out, arm the alarm and walk away.

I have a blitz tt and clifford rsx 3.5 if that helps.

If you're really worried about it, have the alarm installed by somebody who knows what they are doing (and take out all the stuff with your address on it and definitely pay cash).

I've got a Scosche top-of-the-line 2way paging alarm that's better than any of the DEI stuff, and it's got a build in 2min turbo timer. It goes along with the Remote Start feature, where as long as you have the ebrake up, and ur foot off the brake, you can pull the key and the engine stays on for two minutes. If you open and close the door, it'll lock the doors and put the car into Reservation Mode (waitin for Remote Start).

Much easier than juggling cheap alarm with a cheap turbo timer. If you're interested, PM me, I can get the alarm WAAAY cheaper than the $600 list.

There a simple solution to this.. take the igntion function off the alarm and plug it into the accessory to the turbo timer or something like that. I havent touch alarm in like 5 years, so I am not sure, but it is something in that manner. I'll ask my friend later when I remember.

or just dot run a turbo timer because you really dont need one....think about it. if nissan didnt put one on a sr motor from the factory and they have all survived long enough to get to us, then you probably dont need one.


i know this realize a huge argument...if you plan on writing something about that, save you your time typing it.

Al from Dyno flash has a huge turbo on his car that makes like 900+ whp and he doesnt use one.

Turbo timers aren't absolutely necessary but they dramatically help with the life of the turbo, unless you don't mind sitting in your car while it runs for a couple minutes allowing it to cool down so the oil doesn't cook inside the turbo.

Just because you're driving, doesn't mean you're not cooling the turbo. For instance, if you just got off the freeway from a top-speed run, you can cruise around town without spooling the turbo to cool it down, rather that just sit in front of your house/etc.

Thats true too, but if you're at the track and get done with your run, and need to go help your buddy or something the turbo timer makes it very convienent to pull in, park, jump out and get to doing whatever else you need to without having to wait. Not a requirement, but very convienent.
