Cutting slits in rear fender to roll?
Has anyone tried cutting slits in the inner lip about 2 inches apart all along the arch, and then bending them up?
Yeah... no $ for an expensive tool to roll ![]()

you don't need to cut them.
you can easily roll your fenders with a bat or a metal pipe.. just make sure you take your time and heat up the paint with a heat gun. ghetto way works just fine! |

Hmm I was thinking that cutting slits and then folding up individual sections would be easier
I heard some stories about Dimples appearing above/around the fender after people used the baseball bat method :S I don't see how bending the inner lip of the fender could actually produce dimples ![]()

Pull the wheel off.
Get a hammer Get a piece of wood.(Small section of a 2x4 works fine.) Lightly tap hammer on the inside edge of the fender lip to get it to start to bend up. Once it starts to go, put the piece of wood on it and hammer against the wood. Repeat on other side. Done. |

to roll, grab a heat gun, grab a hammer(rubber is better but u can wrap a regular one in a cloth, like i did)
heat it up and start hammering done and done

Don't cut slits...
Because if your tire rubs against it it will be like grating cheese... Rolling works great...

If I hammer it, is there a chance that "dimples" or whatever will appear around the fender? That'd be pretty hard to fix without bondoing or pulling them back out

If you are retarded and use a hammer without a piece of wood or something to diffuse the impact and you beat the shit out of the fender, yes you can get dimples.

Quite a few tuners out here do the slit/roll/pull method, but you can just roll it flat as well.

Use whatever you think would work best.
Obviously the fancy fender roller tool would work wonders but if you are on a tight budget you can be creative. Just remember to keep the paintwork hot and flexible so it won't crack/chip. |

Dont cut slits.....just roll it. When i did mine the first side i did i cut slits, and you could tell where they were cut in the fender. The other side i just rolled without cutting and it came out perfect. Just take your time.

i didn't use a block of wood. metal hammer on metal fender. go slow, use hand on other side like in that video above. heat until its hot but not burning to the touch. done. real easy. no dimples. pipe method works fine too.

I saw someone cut and roll at the track one time using garden clippers and a vise grip... probably the most ghetto thing I've ever seen but it got the job done! It all depends what you are looking for.

Don't cut slits.
I did that and then two years later had to roll and pull my rear fender and when rolled it started splitting up. Don't do it. Just get a fender roller. |

wow you cheap asses. Just go get a fucking fender roller. Do you guys not realize you are rolling a nearly non-replaceable part on your car, that once fucked, is DONE.
I'm not even saying buy a 300 dollar roller, just RENT ONE. I rent mine for 40 bucks and know a few other that do it for a similar price. (and no, i'm not saying this to advertise my roller. Rent someone elses, i honestly don't care. It just pisses me off when i see hacked roll jobs, especially after i bought a car with a hacked roll. Now i HAVE TO go with overfenders... GAY) FUCK BATS FUCK WOOD FUCK HAMMERS FUCK CUTTING SLITS FUCK WASTING MORE THAN 10 minutes on a REAL ROLL. |

10 minutes? maybe if you're handicapped and you have to hobble around one on leg
i jammed a metal pipe wrapped in electrical tape in my rears heated the fender with a propane torch rolled car forward and back 3 times. done. its bending metal. its not rocket science, nor does it require special tools to do it properly. i feel bad for you; but blame the previous owner. |

yeah dont cut slits. My front fenders had slits from something the original had installed and really screwed up my fenders when i rolled them. had to get new ones to fix it.
on a side note. That pink S14 is really slammed.

indeed.
just do what everyone else said. on mine, i just heated it up and rolled it with a bat wedged between the tire and the fender on the rear. for the front, i heated and hammered it down flat. make sure you dont crack the paint!
