Attn Bikirom users, need some feeback
I have a 97 Kouki with S14 SR which is basically stock, the car came with a Bikirom V2 megaboard uninstalled and before I install it I wanted some feedback from people who are currently using it.
I have read on the Bikirom forums of a lot of users having problems with software bugs and sometimes being down for days/weeks on end waiting for fixes. Are any of you guys having issues? how reliable is it? should I have anything to worry about for a daily driver? Thanks any other feedback would be great |

i've been using it on my 95 ka for about a month so far and no problems. i'm not boosted or anything yet so i haven't played around with tuning it too much. datalogging on it kinda sucks. i ended up getting a consult cable. i did have to disconnect the consult wires that go to the bikiboard though. green blue and yellow iirc. have you checked out the biki forums?

its a zenki SR.
so in order to log with Consult I need to get a consult cable? it doesn't log using the USB? you see I really like what the Biki has to offer, but i can't afford to be down waiting for updates or waiting for any kind of help thats why something like the Greddy Emanage Ultimate sounds tempting. Its MAP based and although its a piggyback, its very close to being a standalone, but its more money. |

i don't see why it should be that hard to tune. datalogging doesn't seem to work very well, at least for me it doesn't. It datalogs through the usb and in bikisoft, but it sure wasn't as fast as the consult cable is. just my experience. I would try it out if I were you since you already have it. The installation is the most important part. It is not heavily supported like some of the honda DIY tuning software, but it's the closest thing we have for Nissans. It has a promising future though.

Also the diagnostics portion of consult in bikisoft does not work. You can't reset codes or anything. Another reason i got the consult cable. Plus there's no cool looking gauges in bikisoft.

I have a feeling i might be selling this, not something I really need right now anyways since the car is stock and will be a year before I have engine upgrades going.

I had my bikirom ~2years and got rid of it months ago.. I'm done dealing what that garbage. Even the guy that convinced me bikirom was worth something is crapping out and selling his. BikiR0m = Fail.

Nobody wants to tune the bitch. There is NO real-time updating. You have to reset the ECU everytime you upload a new map with changes. Its HOURS upon HOURS of tuning.. Either you figure out how to ignition tune and fuel tune yourself or you spend the $$ paying someone else to.. and at the end of the day you've spent as much as getting a REAL management AND the cost of tuning an easy to tune one. You need EGT sensors, lambda sensors, knock sensor equipment and then know what the fuck you're doing with all of that. And months of driving and changing maps.. and logging more AFRs..

so what did you switch over to? i've learned a lot over the past two years playing around with my integra and tuning it with crome. egt and knock sensor are not absolutely necessary to get a decent tune that you could fix up in a few hours of dyno time.

I got rid of my KA-T. I'm NA now..
WHEN I do it again.. I'll be using Haltech. Knock is necessary unless you want to destroy your engine. Ignition timing is the most important and to use it in bikirom you need to get an aftermarket knock sensor.. hook it up to an amp.. wire it up to head phones and then try to match the wave files to the AFR datalogs and see if you can find where the knock is occuring. Its not fun. I've done countless hours of research only to say.. FUCK bikirom. haha

well at least ka's are relatively cheap to replace if it does blow up. it should be fun though. good luck getting boosted again. there's nothing like taking out an unsuspecting ricer. haha

So, the solution is not to get an engine management solution that works. Just pop KA's like Pez?

Yea, i'll get good at pulling the engine that way. Maybe do a wire tuck while i'm at it. I'm confident things with biki will get worked out. Was the powerFC perfect right out of the box for every application when it was released?

Unless haltech has updated to something new, they dont have the ability to run knock correction ( as of the last one I used , but that was a little while ago ) you may want to consider megasquirt, unless you dont want to tune yourself, but bang for the buck if you are diy and want a standalone it doesnt get much better for the price.
just fyi if you didnt already know.. thx Quote:

megasquirt after all the details and goodies comes out to the same price as a good standalone unit.
haltech may not have knock correction but it has other means of handling ignition tuning that the BIKIROM does not.

AEM EMS is the best alternative route for using our stock harness without a whole new wire job.
Haltech is expensive with to much wiring. Mega squirt is a shit load of wiring and modification. Biki needs to many updates and just glitches most of the time. It's all a toss up the preferences are different for everybody. About a year ago I was intrigued with the biki then I lost my optimism, but one day if all works well and the technology gets better it could prove to be better than what it is now at an affordable price. Now isfthere was some suitable emulation for OBD2 then we have the ball rolling with some plug and play. If you guys are tired of tuning why not do the 1G DSM ecu swap and wire that bitch in it's good for 400HP. You can get that whole set up for under $200 and then just deal with the headache of wiring it in...LOL.
