215/40/17 or 215/45/17???
ok guys im about to order some tires for some wheels. the wheels are 17x8.5 and 17x9.5, going to be installed on an s13 that does not have widebody. so I would like to keep it simple and not having to much fitment issues so I wanna go with a 215 front and 235 rear.
tire brand/model: Falken 512's They only make the 235's in a 235/45/17 , they dont make 235/40/17. so my question is should I get the 235/45/17's and 215/40/17's? or should I get the 215/45/17's?

don't get a 235/45 rear, it will be monsterous
get 215/40 and 215/45 if you want some stagger get 215/45 all around if you want even, and you want the front a little higher. if you do get the 235/45 rear, then get 215/45 front without a doubt.

The 235 on the back should be just fine. Even more so if you have any power adders or a swap. If you can not find the tire sizes you want, look for other tires.

ive ran a 235/45 on the rear i have a 17x9 +15 wheel with a 25mm spacer and it was just fine. i would have gone with a 235/40 but those tires were free
soooooo 235/40 is perfect IMO perfect amount of grip for a 9in wheel |

I was saying a 235/ 45 was monsterous. 235/40 would be fine.

215/45/17 fronts and 235/40/17 rears...
but if you run 17x9 all around... 235/40/17 all around is prefect...

He is asking about the 235/45 because the tires he wants don't come in 235/40s.
I'll go ahead and say what everyone else is indirectly saying: Go for a different tire. Run a 215/45 or 40 up front and a 235/40 in the rear. I'd run 40 series all around, if it was a 9 rather then a 8.5 up front I'd say go with a 215/45 - which is what I'm running on my 17X9s and I like the way they look.

I hate 45 series tires, after my 225/45/17s FMs in the front got rubbed to oblivion it's 215/40/17 on 9" wide wheel til I die.
OP you can get the ST115 in 235/40/17 if you don't want rubbing issues. My car is too low in the front for 45 series now.

#2 depending on how far your car is lowered, would determine the better looking tire options. If your at stock ride height, then a 235/45 would work fine and would help fill some wheel gap. Especially on a 17" wheel, you want a larger tire profile, not something thats gonna look like a rubberband and leave you with 3 inches of wheel gap. But, but if you have coils or dont want mix and match different profile tires, in that case go with the 40 profile all around. I would go with the 235/45 in the rear, and a 215/40 (maybe 225/40) in the front. Its ultimately up to how you want it to look, I personally like to have a little more buffer to my wheels. |
