I just installed an injen CAI extension on my OBX intake and was wondering if an has had any problems in the rain with the CAI. I'm asking this because during the install there was water in the fender well where my filter is. Although, it had recently rained and might have been dripping from my headlights.

unless you completely submerge the filter you won't suck in any water.....if you want to feel safer get the AEM bypass valve...

It's called "Hydrolock" if i'm not mistaken, and is only an issue if you planning on driving to hawai'i. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='
![]() On a more serious note, I have a similar air filter (that comes right down to the bottom of the front bumper directly in front of the driver's side wheel well, and in heavy rain, yes, the filter gets wet, but no, you will not experience hydrolock. Deep puddles shouldn't even be a problem, unless you accidentally drive off the freeway, into a water-filled ditch in heavy rain. The only reason my filter even got wet was because I dremeled out a few sections in a plastic insert on my front lower bumper... for the purpose of giving the CAI fresh airflow.

That is not hydrolock. Hydrolock is a condition where a significant amount of water is ingested by the engine, and one or more cylinders fills with water. Death to an engine. |

Hydrolock happens when water gets into your cylinders and the pistons are trying to compressed, and sense u can't compress water you normaly bent a rod or crack your cylinder wall in the worst case. So if you are lower 3 in. And have a cold-air intake you got a big chance of that happening to u.
Anyways the bypass valve should keep u in the safe side ,but it could go bad, with u not even knowing it. |
