HKS turbo timer problems
ok so i bought this timer from a friend , said it worked.
its an older HKS turbo timer type-0 the issue im having is its not keeping my ignition turned on when i take the key out. the timer goes on normal, and when i take the key out it counts down but dosent keep the car on. ive looked at like198763876 diagrams and i THINK i have it perfect. ive done this before with my old apexi timer. heres what ive got wired. timer wires / ignition wires -red 12v constant-------------white w/ red stripe -green 12v ignition-------------black w/white stripe -blue 12v acc------------------blue and i have it grounded to my chassis and i also grounded the grey wire for the parking brake. now everything works it just dosent keep the car running, or the ignition on. im stumped. any definitive answers? i need this asap, car is apart. |

my power is straight from the ignition, but im grounding it to my chassis. should i ground it to my ignition? is there even a ground wire coming from the ignition? |

i dont think there is a ground on the ignition...
i found this The NEW (and correct) wiring diagram for 98 240sx ignition - Tampa Racing i know it says 98 and my car is a 89, but i think the ignition is the same. anyone know for sure? |

Wires are wrong. Here's what it should be: timer wires / ignition wires -red 12v constant-------------white -green 12v ignition-------------black w/red stripe -blue 12v acc------------------blue |

As soon as you turn the key halfway between ON and ACC enough to disconnect the ignition pin from power, the turbo timer should intervene. |

i even checked everything with a volt meter ( didnt have one yesterday)
and its right white = 12v constant( all the time) blue = 12v when key turned to acc blackw/red( car harness side, on the ignition side it translates to black w/ a white stripe)= 12v when the ignition is in the start position. so i hope this helps someone else down the line, with wiring up a working timer. thanks to you all. |

http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/190892...ml#post2029091 I have no idea what you just said above. Do you know how to read a wiring diagram and how a turbo timer works? |

First, this makes absolutely no sense: "blackw/red( car harness side, on the ignition side it translates to black w/ a white stripe)= 12v when the ignition is in the start position"
The body harness side and the ignition harness side are the same colour. Black with red stripe goes from the ignition switch to the harness connector then to the body harness and ends up at the ignition system. Black with white stripe starts from the ignition switch to the harness connector then to the body harness and ends up at the starter solenoid. Both the black with white stripe and black with red stripe have power when the key is turned to ST. The bigger question is why does this have anything to do with wiring a turbo timer? "ive wired up PLENTY of turbo timers amd theyve all worked fine." "im stumped" If you know then don't ask. If you ask then don't be a smartass. Which is it? Are you smart, or are you stumped? Both? Turbo timers are simple. Either your timer is fucked up or you don't know what you're doing. Red - tee off the white wire anywhere you like on the body harness or the ignition harness Green - tee into the black with red stripe wire anywhere you like Blue - tee into the blue wire anywhere That's it. Assuming you didn't mess up the ignition harness, if it doesn't work then get a turbo timer harness. If it still doesn't work then get a new timer. I try to help people with wiring, but if you keep saying dumb things and think you know everything then you're on own. |

If you have wired up plenty of turbo timers then you should have no problem with this one. So maybe the turbo timer is messed up? If you know how they work then why don't you measure if there is power coming out of the turbo timer to the ignition when the key is turned off...

look dude, i appreciate your help. ive done everything perfect. wired up like it SHOULD be. and everything i said make perfect sense, im wasnt being a dick or a smartass. and the wire does change colors when it goes from the car harness side and changes to ignition side after the plug. it goes from a black wire with a red stripe into the plug and comes out the other side black with a red stripe. i thought everything was right before i even posted this, i just needed to be 100%. now i know for sure that the timer is bad. case closed. |

car harness side (BLACK WITH A RED STRIPE) ![]() now it goes across to the ignition harness side and translates to BLACK WITH A WHITE STRIPE ![]() see what i mean? but this thread is over. timer is bad. thanks 6th gen civic cx for your help. again though i wasnt being a smartass so please dont turn into a dick and call people dumb. /thread |

You originally said this: Quote:
I got confused because why would you try to hit the starter wire with the turbo timer? Is this guy on drugs? Now that you clarified, what you're trying to say is that the black/white wire on the body harness becomes black/red on the ignition harness. This wire gets 12V(+) when the key is turned to "ON". Say what you mean. We can't read your mind. Nissan ignition harnesses have been known to switch colours from the body harness, especially if you have an aftermarket supplier part. I will confirm this on my own S13. When in doubt, the main body harness is always correct. |
