Dynamat'in a 240sx

I'm planning to dynamat my interior of the car (s13). I want to reduce "MOST" of the road noise. I hate it that bad and want more luxary feel. Has anyone done it already?

I'm planning to get the "dynamat Xtreme Bulk pak"
I was wondering will it be sufficent to cover the entire interior.
The Contents in that pack are (9) 18" x 32" pieces of dynamat Xtreme. TO my calculations thats 36.5 feet squared. Is that sufficut to cover the interior. I'm planning to put a Eclipse Titanium 15" sub also into the spare emergency tire.

maybe

Well if you are covering the doors, trunk lid, trunk, and floor, you might have enough , but you might want to take some measurements of everything to better help you, and so you wont have to spend more money in the long run, I plan on doing the same thing here soon, I will take some measurements and then hook you up if you need them.

I bought a big roll (62.5 sq ft) of this stuff called Raamat from www.raamaudio.com. It is basically the same stuff as dynamat, but I got the roll for $90 shipped. I calculated how much the same amount of Dynamat would cost and it came out over $300!! I figured it was worth a try and it REALLY helped. Ya might wanna check that out.

Wow... THats an extremely good price for it. Yes the kit from Dyamat is around $250 at local shops. I'm interested in Raammat. If it does as good as a job as dyamat I will purchase it. Plus I can double layer that stuff for more obsorbtion.

Normally Road noise is reduced 9-12. Even 18 db if your lucky. I believe that will be hard to get 18 db but I'm sure it'll stop most of the vibration and sound-proof the car more.

Let us know after you've dynamatted the car if it feels significantly heavier. I'd be curious to know.

BTW, the shipping weight on that whole roll was 28lbs. So the car would feel no heavier than if you had a heavy backpack or cooler. Thought u might like to know that.

This stuff is so critical to a system. I just wanted to say that I have actually sold my last system the other day and I am planing on starting from scratch from the bottom up doing it correct this time. I learnt from the mistakes of the last system ie no sound dampening except in the trunk (of my old car) now with the 240 I dont have to worry about a trunk but I get a cool hatch to worry about rattling. Anyways couple of questions anyone know an easy way of applying this stuff I made a mess of it in the trunk of my old car. The stuff has a tar backing and once it sticks its on. Also how should I go about makeing the hatch rattle free. I think im gonna do three layers on the floors and 2 everywhere else what do you guys think any tips to how to go about this would be great. Thanks guys.

I used some sound deadening material called Brown Bread. It cost less than dynomat and
a review of Brown Bread, Dynomat and a few other products name Brown Bread as the best.
There is some more information on it here.

http://www.b-quiet.com/brownbread.html

I used two 70 sq ft. rolls of this to cover the whole inside of my '90 240sx. I covered the front,
rear, doors, and headliner and just about everything else in the car. I also had some extra to
double up on places like under the seats and in the hatch. Check out the pictures here.

Pictures

After the install I noticed so much of a difference. It was so much quieter than before. I have
an Apex'i N1 and before the deadening I had to almost yell at my passenger to have a conversation,
now I don’t have to.

It is good stuff, I recommend it!

P.S. If you don't want to go through the trouble of taking out your whole interior to install this
stuff, I'm going to be selling my '90 this summer.

Looks good dude. I dont understand why mine didnt come out clean lol I think I learned from some of my mistakes such as cutting the pieces way to small. The **** is such a pain since its so stick. OH and this time im getting a ****ing roller omg I can not stress on that. I will go ahead and try out brown bread this time I have also read really good reviews about it being better then dynamat.

As far as weight goes, if you remove the factory sound deadening material it should balance out fairly well (if you want to go that far into the project. . . stuff's prolly a bitch to remove).

Damn, I thought 1 roll would have been sufficient enough. I will just buy 2 then. I want to double layer the trunk for my 15" sub to be back there.

140 sq ft. $300 thought, thats alot of money.

I dynametted my entire floor, the entire hatch and part of the doors on my Z. I did it mostly because of sound quality, and also to reduce the exhaust noise which was getting to be annoying at times. Anyway, i did this when I worked at a car audio store so it was cheap, I wouldn't do it now because it would cost a lot of money to do it properly. Just doing patchwork will not help you much, you must cover the entire area that you want to reduce th noise on.

Also, I know this response is getting kinda long, but I have done this to toyotas and when you slammed the doors, they sounded as solid as a lexus, so if you want a luxury feel, this upgrade is not bad.

Try McMaster-Carr, u can buy a roll of "High Temp Mastic" for about 1/4 the price of Dynamat and it's pretty much the same stuff. I used it and it's awesome.

Start to finish, taking out the interior and replacing it took about 3 weeks. It took so long because I did not work on it everyday even tho I should have.

Also a tip for quicker install is use a roller, if you did not know all ready. I took measurements of the areas that I wanted to cover and cut thoes out of the Brown Bread roll and rolled them into place. It was very easy to install with a roller.

Azn_romeox: Did you see my link with the pictures?

Do you have to cut the sheets a little bigger so they fit into the crevises(sp)?
