ok got the tranny dropped, clutch/flywheel off, and now I'm trying to change
my rear main seal. The seal retainer is being stubborn and not moving much. Has anyone changed there seal? any secrets on getting the retainer off? Thanks. John '96 se KA ------------- |

See... I did do a search before I opened a new thread!
Up... I need the answer to this question also... Thanks. I've change mine once before.. but it is apparently leaking again so I am assuming I did something wrong. Do I need to put sealant around it first? Thanks guys. |

i dont know which engine you have but coming from 22re, z24i, ka24e, and vg30 experience maybe i can help you out. its going to be a pain if the engine is in the car but you probably already know that. there should be bolts on the back of the block side, and bolts that come up from the oil pan. it should be simple to knock out if you have the oil pan off. ive never tried with a pan on but you may be able to do it, if you get it out, the hard part will be trying to fit it in there with the oil pan gasket, actually i doubt this is even possible. lift your engine up to get some room and take your pan off, it will be worth the extra work
Edit: i read you have dohc KA, should be same as ka24e correct me if im wrong |
