right... nothing like some good ole fashioned closed mindedness

oh btw: AIR COOLED owns

The air cooled volkswagon "nazi box" made by Ferdinand Porsche created the cheap fast fun "import" market back in the 70s. Parts are cheap and plentiful, the aftermarket is huge, and it is the easiest car to work on EVER. Plus, there are quite a few of these ancient cars that could destroy your car.

that said, mine is not one of them. I have about 40hp and pure rice everywhere It is for car shows and preserving a peice of history, but remains a blast to drive.

wow never seen that VW board before.

the major aircooled board is http://www.shoptalkforums.com

there are a lot of good people on that board. a lot of pros with seriously fast cars too. and most of the people you see in VW trends post on that board even their editors.

fastest 1/4 mile time ive seen on a full bodied beetle was a 9.54 @~145MPH and this was at bandimere (6000ft elevation). there is an aircooled VW powered dragster that runs 6.70s at over 200mph (its the worlds fastest 4cylinder drag car)

ever seen a bug pull a 3ft wheelie. i have its cool

I agree, but I take that 70s thing back a step further... They created the cheap aircooled thing back in WWII, when the general engine design that we all came to love from the beetle was implemented by Hitler to allow for cheap replacement (directly related to what we do now) on military aircraft. I am in school for aviation maintenence and one of the planes we have in the shop at school has a beetle engine on it, and all continental and lycoming engines are closely related in operation and aircooled-ness. I have individual parts off the engine, replaced and re-installed in the time it takes me to get stuff off my 240...
