alright, so, long story short: while driving, heard a weird clunking sound coming from under the car. got the car jacked up and saw that the dust boot was all messed up, must have came loose or something because the driveshaft was chipping away at it. going to remove the dust boot, but wanted to know if there was a problem running without one, and if it was really necessary to buy a new one as I see that the other end connected to the diff does not even have one. Advice is much appreciated.

You should be fine without it. Lots of people here run without one.

took it off last night, so all is good.
