Knock-off wheels???

do you guys really think its that big of a deal to rock real rims over knockoffs as track wheels???

somebody please tell me the differance between buying a set of 3-4000 dollar nismos that are forged monoblock, alot stronger but still prone to break if hit with enough impact, and buying 4 sets of rotas for under 1000 each set???

dont you think 4 sets of rotas will last longer than a set of nismos getting beat on daily at the track??

or am i completely wrong and somebody already broke 4 sets of rotas in a year??

Weight.
Rotas probably weigh double that of LMGT4's, for less aggressive sizing.
Plus street cred goes down.

I would expect Nismo's to withstand more punishment than a Rota anyday.

The downside to buying knockoff wheels is getting belittled on the internet.

That dude Dousan beats around the track on LMGT4's. He's had those wheels for a couple of years I believe (as early as I've ever seen his car).

The quality will be better in most cases buying the original maker i suppose .that being said nothing wrong with knock off wheels IMO, espically for track use. now if i could only find some good 4 lug 18x8 or bigger wheels..

Is there really a point in talking about this anymore?

It's the same for everything in life.

You buy nice stuff or you buy cheap stuff.
Will it work the same? It might. It might not.

Buy name brand shoes or shoes from Wal Mart
Buy name brand food or buy generic food
Buy name brand car parts or fake car part
Buy name brand clothes or Target brand clothes.

Some people can afford nice stuff, some cant.
Some people cant. but try to anyways.
Some rich people dont give a shit and will buy the generic stuff.

Buy it and find out.
Let everybody know.

A person, company, etc. whatever will put time and effort into something and create an item.
Somebody else will see it and copy it because there will always be a market for it.
People want what they cant afford, so they have to settle.

haha wimp take it easy there e-thug. ill refrain myself from cheapshot childish comments to get back at you, but what do you think makes 5lug any stronger anyways? to say i spent more money on my car to please guys like you?

my car is 5lug and so are the knock off rotas i have. only car i have that is 4lug is one of my m30s that i have not yet started working on. other than that, y33, s13, gs300 and m30 are all 5lug.

z33s are good track wheels but to fill the fenders for my crip daily wheels id rather rock some cheapy wheels with good fitment. knock off or not.

good point but, does that guy really hit any thing or put his rims in much danger??? im talking about straight gangster battles with the curb and what not that most rota wheels are known for going down from.

im pretty sure this picture posted wasnt from just going over a pothole.

haha take it easy bro. seems like youre getting all worked up over nothing. only reason i posted this thread is because i see so many threads get shit on and locked because of this type of discussion. i figured why not make a legit thread about it and get everyones opinion without the hassle of mods deleting it everytime. or is this the wrong place to post this question as well??

why do you automatically assume that im asking for anyones opinion on what to buy. i have my own mind to do that. you think im here to ask you what i should put on my car??? just trying to figure out why there are soo many haters out there on knock off wheels. like you said, its not each persons car and what they choose to do to it should be up to them. just posted this cuz ive seen so much hate on knock-offs lately and getting kinda sick of it. hopefully this will help aleviate that nonsense smack talking or even better get rid of it all together instead of cluttering up and locking threads

btw i already have a set of p45s and a pair of nismos but just kinda wanted everyones opinions on why they think their real rims are so highly praised, other than the price tag and the fact that not too many people are willing to drop that kinda loot.

well put on both of your guys part! these are the kinda answers i was looking for. humble, honest and un-biased opinions. most of the time i just see people talking smack about how much they spent and how great their wheels are compared to so and so's. i just dont like the fact of guys with baller wheels looking down on other people. whole reason i got out of the 240 scene to begin with. i try not to post much but some stuff just really gets under my skin.

oh and to your "is there any reason to be talking about this anymore?"

again, only reason i posted this, is cuz i feel the same way as you. no reason to be talking about this anymore but, it keeps popping up in all kinds of threads. i figure if we make a post about this with some real feedback of actual knock-off users maybe the snotty nosers can get off their high horse and stopp shiiting on everyones thread because they dont like knockoffs. if it doesnt help, oh well at least i tried.

oh yeah and the main things that made me post this is soo many people keep going off topic in the wheel whore fitment and cluttering up the thread. others as well but that was the final draw. i look at that thread everyday to see what kinda sick fitment people have and im tire of reading pages with out pix or helpful/useful info on them.

Personally I've never liked anything knockoff. The quality isn't there. Yeah sure it may do this and that, but there's no originality. I'd rather spend my money on the company that took the time to make something original.

I run Rota grids. I bought them off of ebay and then painted them white with white spray cans I got from this mom and pop shop.

Then I purchased some Rays stickers from ebay and put it on and for the last two years everyone has been thinking their real.

Seriously who runs real wheels anymore.

Knock off is totally the way to go.

Street cred? GTFO who needs street creds when I pull sick drifts with wheels that I bought at 25% cost of the real jams.

People have been doing it all wrong. Get knockoffs and be proud of them. I mean who gives a shit about authentic shit when we could all just run knockoffs so that eventually no legit company will want to make new products and frp fenders that are from a first batch mold are totally fucked because the mold is a copy of a copy of an authentic product and is now totally fucked. They won't make it because they will have no reason to since they spend the R&D into making a product and some asshole comes along and copies it, sells it for a quarter price of the real shit and makes loads of money because people have no pride in what they buy.

Just saying.

do you beat on your wheels at all?? if so then more power to you, if not thats what knock offs were made for in my eyes. flying by theyre supposed to look exactly like the ogs.

this is mainly aimed at the guys that think we should be rocking baller ass wheels to beat on our daily slider or track car. definatly a bunch of people that have the flow to do it, but for the most of america that doesnt, why is it such a bad idea to track knock-offs.

we dont even have a track here so curbs, guardrails and other things get in the way alot more than the tracks you guys are soooo lucky to be blessed with.

hell i have a good friend that bought a brand new set of work equip 03s for his m30. took out a 1800 loan and everything to get them. not even a few months of having them he spun out in to a curb and totaled 1 front and 1 back wheel in a matter of seconds. i dont think any brand wheel could have stood up to that kind of abuse and roll away with a couple scratches.

This argument always ends up with the same result.

Some people buy knock offs.

Some people don't.

Honestly, it's your car(talking to everybody in general). Build it whatever way YOU want.

Oh no, somebody on the interwebs is ragging on my car for having knock off parts!!!

Who gives a shit.

Your car. Your parts. Your money.

Done and done.
