Cant Decide!!! Ahh Mind Hurts!
Ok. Its come down to this. Im going to buy either a subaru WRX Sti or a Mitsubishi Evolution. I cant decide. I like the WRX for style, comfort and speed, but I hear the handling is poop. On the other side. I like the Evo becuase of handling, respectable numbers and doesnt look too bad either. I need peoples opinions who have:
A: driven either or B: seen either My thoughts so far on the Evo are that I dont like the FMIC and it BOGS SO BAD but then takes off like a rocket. Havent had a chance to drive the STi yet but Im tring to find a place that is demoing one. Sat in a STi and love the interior. Bahh too many variables |

The STi's handling is FAR FAR FAR from poop. It's perhaps second best, but still incredible for $30k. I know a couple STi owners already, they both say it's not as immediately intuitive as the Evo but when you get a feel for the car (in a way that a magazine reviewer wouldn't get in a few hours) it clicks nicely into place.

i would personally go with the STi. im just not impressed with the styling of the new Evos...it looked far better back in the evo v and evo vi days. also, why did Mitsu decide to give the american market the crappy tail lights?

But if i had to decide now i would probably go with the EVO, i love the interior and the seats, but i haven't been in a sti yet. The sti i heard is going to be able to put out better numbers though when modding, already has 2X more already. |

I test drove both and was pleasingly surprised with the EVO. The STI was nice on takeoff, lat accel, and balance but no stereo and the rubber wears quickly and a little noisier.
The EVO has a sweet azz interior. They are both AWD as you know. EVO has slightly better mileage, stopping distance, and launched hard off a 6k rpm rev. The styling is mainstream. I actually wanted the Vishnu EVO, but it is special ordered and 5k more for more power and other amenities. |

There is no 'Vishnu Evo', you buy and evo and you take it to vishnu performance for their stage 1 package
![]() ANYWAY my pick is the STi. Comes with a lot more stuff than the evo, and the evo's stock handling advantage can be easily overcome by suspension upgrades on the STi. Plus who can turn down an extra 500ccs of displacement. Oh yea, and the STi doesnt have to run the turbo at 20psi stock. But thats just me... |

Also, those taillights were actually a carryover from the previous Evo VII GTA. The GTA was a luxury model of the Evo VII that came with those taillights, smaller wing (the same one we can get as an option), and a tiptronic-style automatic trans. |

im pretty sure 'car and driver' were the ones to do a test/comparisson on the two cars... if i run into it i'll run some cliff notes on it for you.. but i do know that one of the cars was mentioned to be running the upwards of 14 lbs. of boost which 'car and driver' noted was a hair away from maximum boost.
i know its not much help but its some where to start. and personally i think the sti's wing and hood scoop kill the car... but thats my .02 |

there you go... review on the sti and evo by 'car and driver'
oh yeah i was semi-wrong about one of the cars pushing 14 lbs. of boost. the sti is pushing 14 lbs. while the evo is pushing 19 lbs. ![]() |

Actually, the evo's boost doesn't level out at 19psi. It peaks at 19psi and then drops a few psi (maybe to 14???) and then levels out. I may be wrong about this, but, IIRC, the evo's computer manages the boost in some weird way like this. The evo has a twin scroll turbine...if that has anything to do with it. But don't listen to me. I don't know jack $hit. Just talking out my a$$. However, when I sat in the Evo...I fell in lllluuuuvvvv. OMG that silver with the red calipers and carbon fiber wing...GEEZ ![]() And if those tail light really bother you too much, just swap them out for the Evo VII tail lights. They're a direct fit. |
