WTT/WTS: 92 coupe RB26DETT ?
hey guys,
i don't post here much (mostly SEARCH and lurk alot). anyway, I bought an unfinished s13 coupe project from a local guy here in TN that already had an RB26DETT in it. Apparently the guy who had it really didn't know his way around wiring, and basically I had to rewire the whole car. Anyways, on to the details: R33 RB26DETT (R33 had longer crank snout to fix the oil pump drive problem the R32s had) RB25 oil pan and custom pickup (very nicely done) trans (was opened up, inspected, and re-sealed, shifts 100% perfectly, smoothest trans i've ever had) MINES ECU NEW NISMO r33 gts-t clutch R33 GTS-T diff Mckinney mounts (High $$$) Mckinney downpipe (High $$$) Custom FMIC Blindside driveshaft Innovate wideband Coolant temp and boost gauge Rebuilt z32 26mm Calipers New brake master cylinder Flushed all fluid New rotors EMUSA Coilovers Brand new steering rack Tein tension rods Newish windshield Functional headlights 350z 17" wheels and good tires. I also removed/flushed/cleaned/reinstalled the gas tank Battery relocated to trunk with high quality welding cable (way better than normal battery cable) and nice crimp fittings, all plastics in trunk. I remade most of the harness (i'm mostly a wiring guy) and got it running beautifully on a R32GTR ecu, and i'm considering trading it for an S14, or maybe something else that is just newer and has AC (this is my DD at the moment) Body: The car is a white 92 Coupe Sharknose with decent paint, over-fenders, black pignose carpet (very clean), S14 seats, digital cluster (cant get it to light up at the moment) with an I30 tach, etc. the shell isn't the best, and it could use a paintjob, but it has ZERO rust on it.. I basically bought this unfinished project from a local guy, went through the whole car, finished it, and now i want something a little NICER and maybe not quite as rowdy. i just wanted to throw this up on here and see what kind of trade i could get, or maybe even how much you all think it is worth to sell it outright. i can post pictures if anyone is interested. (edited to make this a little easier to read. see update and price further down) Last edited by jacobcartmill; 08-25-2011 at 08:00 PM.. |

guys i have an update, as this thing has gotten a lot of interest/PMs going.
my roommate noticed yesterday (right after making that cold start video posted above) that the engine seems to have a tapping/knocking sound, but only after the engine got hot, and only at idle, which seems strange. so, being anxious (and a little OCD about my cars) i used up my last favor at my friend's shop last night to put the car on the lift, drop the subframe, and pull the oil pan (i had the subframe/suspension out a week ago to install the new rack!!!) I pulled every rod cap to check the bearings, and they were all perfect. so we looked up into the bottoms of the pistons and everything, and it all looked perfect, so we cleaned everything up very well, reinstalled the pan, and ran out of time. i went back to the shop this morning and finished reinstalling the subframe/suspension and we did an alignment. started it up, sounds exactly like the video i posted, then after it got hot it started to make the light tapping/knocking sound again. confusingly, it sounds like it's 100% in the cylinder head. the bottomend looks 100% perfect. i do not have anymore time/space/favors/money to pull the cylinder head or really do any more work to it. SO, this really sucks, and i know this may look slightly shady considering the timing and my low post count, but now i have to be honest since this thing has gotten a lot of interest! i was going to post the price at 8500, but since it is making this noise that needs to be checked into (that i really have no idea what it is and i can't prove what it is), i'll drop the price to 7500 OBO. |

video of the sound posted above. knocking/tapping sound when warmed up.
rb26 engine noise - YouTube keep in mind the bearings/crank are 100% perfect, so that sound is not a rod knock! |

yeah me too. the video definitely doesn't sound good, but i figure someone can get a pretty damn good deal on this, and pull the head, find whatever the problem is, and put it all back together for a few hundred bucks. i don't really know. i do know that there is about 13k total in this car including the shell. an r33 rb26 s13 swap cannot be done for less than this with this good of a shell and decent parts.. just off the top of my head i have: engine (3000), trans (1000), custom oil pickup (250), fmic (350), driveshaft/mounts/downpipe (1000), wiring (500, but i did the work) diff (250), all synthetic fluid (100), battery (100), battery relocation (100), steering rack (150), alignment (100), full gasket kit (150), greddy timing belt and clear cover (250), nismo clutch (350), new brake master cylinder (120), new clutch master cylinder (80), new clutch slave cylinder (40), DIF fan controller (150), e-fans (100), CX radiator (120), greddy intakes (100), reman brake calipers (200), new brake rotors (100), 350z wheels/tires (450), black carpet (50), gauges (100), innovate wideand (200), tein tension rods (300), EMUSA coilovers, (500), ISIS megaphone exhaust (300), S14 seats (100) that's $10,660 right there in just parts, and i've surely forgotten some parts!!! i think someone could get a hell of a deal on this, spend a little time fixing this engine noise, and end up VERY good. the engine does not smoke one bit (and that includes the turbos) and you can drive it anywhere... it just makes that damn noise |
