240sx massive wheel hop.
Hey guys,
ive been having issues with wheel hop. Its really starting to annoy me, specially when i see other 240's doing burnouts and donuts really smooth. Ok, so when i launch from a dig, i get massive wheel hop. Also, when i initiate donuts, or even try to do a burnout. I've installed SPL solid subframe bushings, checked most of my rear bushings which seem good, installed godspeed arms + sway bars (all of them are tight), Tein HA coilovers (played around with stiffness) , 245 series tires, welded diff. Also, my car is pretty much leveled, but my coilovers are not, in order to get the car leveled, i had to give more compression(turns) to one of the coilovers. This is really starting to annoy me. Please help me out. thanks |

How old are your coilovers? What engine or mods do you have done?
Could be one of your coilovers going bad? You did say you had to stiffen one more. Maybe just not enough weight in the rear for the "power" you have? |

I have an RB20, fmic, 25 turbo, 10psi tuned with a safc. My car is gutted all the way, and It could be not enough weight at the back. But, what I'm mainly looking for is doing a smooth burnout without wheel hop, not looking for traccion. I bought my coilovers used but in great shape, no leaking or anything. Will try reduncing my tire size to 225 series.
Also, I will try to post pics of what I mean with the height of coilovers. |

Ok here are some photos.
Here you see the passenger side wheel is a bit further out. Also, you can see the passenger side needs a bit more low. ![]() Here you see Driver side coilover ![]() Here you see Passenger side coilover ![]() Here you can see driver side coilover. you can see there is a bit of thread left for adjusting. ![]() Here is the Passenger side coilover. you can see there is too little thread left for adjusting height. ![]() With this pictures im showing you my problem. The driver side is more compressed than the passenger side, and still i need to give the passenger side more low (un- compress it more). Why could this happen? could this be the problem of my wheel hop? THis car has not suffered any big accidents. I already changed the whole subframe assembly but no luck. please help me out guys |

Preloads on the coilovers? I think the coilovers may be it, the passenger side has no room for adjusting on the collars and the spring is less compressed than the others making more spring travel

I know you said your bushings look good in the rear but recheck the lca bushings. I had this problem while drifting and found out my lca bushing were shot. The rubber fell out when I took off my lca.

Lol, he clearly "lowered" the car by adjusting the preload.
lg54, you need to set the springs back to how they were (even) and adjust height by twisting the coilover housing instead.

The coilover on the left, make it the same as the right one, install back on car and see what happens. Honestly I'd get a new set of coilovers... lol

yah, either you struts are blown OR possibly if you have shortened sway bar endlinks, there could be alot of tension on the sway bar pulling up one of the wheels maybe.

Those look like godspeed arms on all your car, if it is i can almost guarantee you that each one of those bearings is lose and needs replacing.

dude don't get new coils, unless you have a couple grand just laying around doing nothing, i have ha's on my car and i love them, yours do look pretty tired but if you send them in to tein they will rebuild them, all new seals and everything, they will even put a Teflon coating on the threads to eliminate the rust, they do that all for 80$ a coil, and you can order some different tension springs when you send them in so you can really fine tune the coils.
anyways... i have a buddy with a ca18 in his hatch with almost the same problem, and it looks like yours has the same thing wrong, before he got his car someone had drifted into a curb or something and shifted his whole sub frame to the left which is exactly what looks like happened to yours with the passenger side sticking out. anyways it cause super uneven pressure on his back wheels any time he tried to drift because all his suspension settings were set equal instead of mismatched to correct the damage. now im not saying leave your coils as they are because they need to be adjusted the same or you will get different tensions but try setting your godspeed stuff up not to match each other but to the degrees the wheels need to be at |

Try stiffiening the dampeners, if they are adjustable....I softened my coilovers and now I wheel hop doing burnouts, I didn't before when it was stiffer. My coilovers are new 8k springs in the back with 235's

Dude I'm as proud as the next guy and love DIY to save money, but get a professional alignment!!! Suspension does not fall in the "horseshoes and hand grenades" category! Close enough won't work! Every piece of your rear susp is adjustable and you can't just eyeball things like toe/ camber/ caster/ ride height. Find a reputable shop to do the work. They'll probably find your wheel hop issue too. Everyone posting in this thread has given you great advice, but we can't inspect or align your car from here, so get the alignment.
