Heading to Dominican Republic Need Advice!!!!

Whats up guys,

Im heading with some buddies to DR in April. We'll be staying in Santo Domingo for like a week. Now I need some input on places to go, where to stay away from, general advice. From what my buddies tell me this place if full of chicks and love american guys. I've been reading up on the place too, and it seems there are a ton of prostitutes too Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The chicks really love american boys so u wont need to visit the prostitutes. Stay out of the slums, you wont make it back out. Boca Chica has some nice resorts and beaches with alot of euro tourists.
Also, the jdm engine places are dirt cheap cuz of the currency exchange rate if you wanna check them out.

ive never actually been to santo domingo, but my mom's been there and a few of my friends. i go to punta cana a lot, its a 4hr drive i think. but yea like everyone else says, do NOT drink the tap water and watch out for them hookers lol they do really love americans. drifting is actually pretty big down there so dont be surprised to see 240's and maybe a few skylines rolling around.

like sil8ty said dont make it obvious you got money, parts of santo domingo away from the beaches gets super sketch. depending on where you go, kids will most likely run up to you and ask for some peso's

it is very beautiful you will have loads of fun...and drink lots of presidente its pretty good beer.

Go to la romana and stay there for the week. Lots of beautiful girls and its beatiful there. Stay away from back roads and stay away from the moto-concho (moped taxi guys) unless you want to be taken to the wrong place and robbed at machete point. Try to stick to the tourist areas period. Thats all I can think of for now

Go to Cuba. Much safer environment and the girls will flock in the abundance.

my sister lived there for 5 years (peace corp) and i visited for a month. it's a REALLY 3rd world country and a lot of nasty/terrible things are there. santo domingo is pretty nice if you stick to the tourist part of it, the real dominican republic isn't something you want to experience really.

Hopefully that is not your reason for going. That is kind of like joining the armed forces to hook up with 'Japanese' girls in Okinawa.

I never understood why people like to vacation in such gross places. Plus it is a slap in the face to the locals who have to live there, while you go there to stay for a week in a nice hotel and tourist area that they are not even allowed in.

Then again, I guess I just do not care for tropical places, period. I would choose mountains/North any day.

Watch a few Dominican movie(sanky panky,la soga) to get a idea of what your going into. Last time I was there I stayed in "moca".

We are staying in "Zona Colonial" if that matters? From doing research, it supposedly has some good bars and nightlife there. The buddies and I just want to go and have a good time basically. Also is that area somewhat safe?

Any necessities other than codoms? lol


Plus whats some of the JDM engine places?

Don't get adventurous, the slums in Santa Domingo are really rough.La Zona Colonial(The Colonial Zone) is a touristic area so its pretty safe and nice.Punta Canta is pretty much all resorts, safe and beautiful. Oh by the way, the way people drive down there is nuts. Rolling thru stops or red traffic lights with nothing but a honk to alert others around isn't uncommon. Take taxis when possible, Apolo taxi is pretty good, if you do use a taxi , ask for the rate from such and such place when you call so you don't get jipped by the taxi driver.

P.S. Don't flaunt too much that you have cash, a little bit doesn't hurt but not crazy.

very few people actually like a "typical" american tourist.

keep it in your pants, condoms don't protect you from everything. hook up with tourists or something, if you even can. going to a foreign country for women is so pathetic lol

if you can't get bottled water, boil the water and refrigerate. most resorts will have water filtration systems, but i've traveled with people who get sick easy. it depends on how your body takes it all in, i've never had a problem with water from nicaragua and surrounding areas.

take those water purification tabs if you feel really paranoid.

If your not with a trusted local or native friend I would stay away from the local spots. I was there with a native and had the time of my life. Only because of him, he knew where to go, what to do and had family still living there.

DR is a beautiful place with beautiful people, I just cant stress enough that you really need to be with a locals to have fun.

The tourist spots might be fun, buts its far from the real DR. The locals, the clubs, the genuine natives, local hangouts. All make this place, one of the best places to experience.

The girls are indeed pretty beautiful, but like others said protect yourself and don't get married lol just have fun.

Oh yea try to speak spanish if you can, that whole american cool language goes out the window when your outta the tourist zone.

Im from the Dominican Republic. Born and Raised Dominican! The Colonial Zone is a nice place, lots of bars, restaurants, and Hard Rock Cafe, and basically a cool nightlife. Lots of nice girls over here. we have a big car life over here, but most of them are ricers, only a few are true jdm.

Things are not soo dramatic like people have mentioned up top. You will find lots of places with water and comfort food. Boca Chica is about 15 minutes away, amazing beaches and a relaxed lifestyle.

Yeah bring condoms, or just buy em here watever.

Ahh, April starts our Dominican Drift Championship.
