I have a '91 300ZX 2+2 NA It's an awsome car as lomg as you don't mind putting in the $$ for Maintenance and repairs. They can get pretty expensive. I have never driven the TT but I have gotten the NA up to 145mph and that was only because of the limiter otherwise it would have been much higher. and I find it has plenty of power and nearly perfect handeling for my taste.

VTEC gives you two (or more) seperate cam profiles.
Realistically VTEC just gets you better gas milage. It's the high compression and agressive timing that give you more performance. Really it depends on how you look at it, but it doesn't neccessarily make a car fast. |

I don't know how much you do or don't know but here are some links that I found helpful...
<a href="http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm" target='_blank'>http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm</a> <a href="http://www.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm" target='_blank'>http://www.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm</a> that explains how car engines work and how vtec works. BTW honda/acura is the only company that has vtec, but a lot of other car companies have similar things. "Several engine manufacturers are experimenting with systems that would allow infinite variability in valve timing" I think porshe succeeded at this with their new 911 turbo... I saw another link at the bottom of that page...<a href="http://www.leecao.com/honda/vtec/index.html" target='_blank'>http://www.leecao.com/honda/vtec/index.html</a> hehe "just what the heck is the thing that the rice boys are bragging about?" i had a NA Z32 2 seater, loved that car, still do, i want another one, if anyone thinks that the NA Z's are a maintenence nightmare, just wait until you get ahold of a TT, i've worked at nissan dealers and it's not pretty, they can be absolute screamers if you set them up properly and keep em running, the Z32 didn't have any kind of varialbe valve timing as far as i know, 222hp stock is quite a bit compared to our 155, they are faster in a straight line, but don't have quite the handling capability i don't think
if you have any other questions just ask, i'll do what i can to answer |

Honda has many engines that are 3.0 and higher with "V-Tec" 1st one would be the 1998 and up V6 accord with 200 hp at 6000rpms and 195 ft lbs. Its a great car and is had great pick up. The next one that comes to mind is the TL and CL also 98 and up but only on the 3.0 spec untill late last year when they got the best V6 ever made by Honda IMO the 3.5L TL/CL engine with 260hp and right around 222 ft lbs.... Many ppl that have tested the new TL/CL type S say its the best ride and power feel to ever come out of Honda V6 and I qoute "Yes we know the NSX have a V6" So there what I can help you with... Happy hunting. BTW if you care.
Specs!!!!!!!!!! 0-60 98 V6 Accord 7.4 and 15.8 1/4 mile 0-60 TL/CL type S 6.0 and 1/4 mile is right around 14.8 to 14.7 PS these are all auto, FWD witch is why I have a Nissan. :-) |

vtec is just hondas name for controlling cam lift and lobes etc etc toyota has vvt and vvt-i i think? nissan has now cvvt or cvt whatever . wasnt toyota the first to introduce this design? ive always been curious about that.
i know old maximas had vtc's on the intakes and so do the 300's |

I dont know but after reading up on Vtec a little bit i kinda like it myself cause you gotta turn the lobes a few degrees to make the valves close later instead of earlier making it to where the fuel and air intake is faster making your car react at a better time... if my understanding was right on that

You forgot the Odyssey minivan. It comes with a 3.0 V6 with VTEC. I used to drive one when I worked for Honda. Let me tell you...for a minivan, it hauls ass. Especially when the inside is gutted.
I was king of the minivan stoplight drags. I owned Caravans, Windstars, Town and Country's....you name it. You'd be suprised how many married, middle-aged gusy who were forced into getting a kid hauler are game for a little slushbox racing. |

Luv: Now start reading up on our beloved 240sx. Drive one, and you won't go back <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> They are the best handling and best looking cars in their class, and with a l'il work, no slouch at the drag strip.

Luv, you may not really want a 3.0 V6 engine.
I used to drive a 3.0 V6 (Dodge Daytona). I really love the car, and it had alot of power. I remember thinking that I wouldn't be happy only having a 4 cylinder engine after owning that car. I now (proudly) own a 98 240sx, and I can tell you, that it is definately faster than my old 3.0 engine was. Now I'm not trying to sell you a 240 or anything, just to point out that you would be supprised by what a 4 cylinder can do. My friend has a 99 Prelude (vtec), and a 93 Integra (also with vtec), and both are fast. Even before he modified either car, they had plenty of pickup and speed. And there are alot of 4 cylinder 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4 engines that are alot faster than your average 3.0. Not to mention getting better gas mileage. Just something to think about. Also, vtec doesn't kick in until the higher rpms. In the low revs, there's no difference. The advantage comes in the higher rpms. When alot of engines peak, or even start to lose power, the vtec allows the engine to pull harder into the higher revs. Essentially giving you a much nicer top end, while leaving the bottom end alone. This is nice, but some of honda's vtec engines are kinda lacking in the lower rpms because they rely more on the high rpm power. (**Warning: Blatent Sales Pitch Below**) The Nissan 240sx on the other hand, is know for is strong bottom end, delivering plenty of power in the low rpms. |

The 300zx is only available in TT trim or 2+2 seating. One or the other. I couldn't see driving around with friends bitching about small the back seat was, because I'd be all like, "I sacrificed 70hp so you'd have anyplace at all to sit, so shuddup!"
Yeah, I was all about gettin' a 300zx not too long ago. Then my mechanic said I'd never be happy with it, as they have the tendency to require constant maintance. He did say they didn't have major problems, but he knows how nit-picky I am, and I'd just be asking to do stuff constantly. But, yeah, my point was you can't get a 2+2 TT, so keep that in mind if you're shopping. |
