KA Need help!!

So about a few weeks ago comming home from my brother's house i notice my ka24de making a knocking noise comming from the head and my oil light was on. I am not mechanic so i googled it. Seen another 240 on youtube making the exact noise and he said it was the timing chain guides. Well im hoping it is the guides but th next day while driving to work my car idles pretty high and dies out on me at a traffic light. Starts back up right after and i made it to work and home that day. I didnt bother driving my car for a few days but i drove to work again that week and it died out but started again right after. At the next stop light my car dies again this time it doesnt start back up. It wont turn over either. My motor isnt blown nor am i leaking anything. Checked my oil and my oil was good. Im just really stuck on what it is. If anyone else can help that'd be great

Is there a certain RPM that you hear the knocking? Or is it through all RPM's?

my 240 has a ticking sound during idle, thats the timing chain guides.
its just the timing chain tapping against the plastic guides.
that MIGHT cause a problem if the guides break and pieces of it inside your engine somewhere but..when that happens, the ticking stops and you'll probably end up hearing a different noise or something.

i think you may have a different problem..(dont know what though..sorry)

Firstly, the oil light and noise is not good. For anyone reading what I'm writing, 'don't continue to drive the car if this happens', Pull over and Diagnose.

Where you are at right now, I would check your oil pan for debris.
if yes, rebuild engine time, or sell block to KA-T dude for $20.
if no, then do a compression check (search youtube for compression check ka24de)
if all cylinders are around the same number, then you are fine, if its more then 10 points between any of them, then Rebuild.

Potentially your oil pump could have gone, but that should show debris in the oil pan, one would think. Only way to be absolutely sure of this is to pull the lower timing cover off and open up the oil pump.

There is two timing guides on the head that make noise, but they are un-related to the Oil system of your car. Remove them if you rebuild. Top timing guide, and driver side of USDM car. Left side is a tensioner, you need that.

Let us know what disaster you have found. Take pics and update us, because if you don't post a solution, the next guy will search, find this thread, and be angry.

edit: kinda curious what car you actually have. Be more specific.

Thanks to both for replying to my post. I will definetly post as much pictures and a brief explanation of what goes on. I didnt want to drive my car after this happend but i had no other way to work. My car is a 92 240sx coupe. Car ran great before this happend. Hopefully the car will get towed after work to my friends today and we can get to it.
