So your ball joint is spinning freely and not allowing the nut to tighten, correct?

That's a good sign your balljoint is beyond thrashed. They only spin easily in the joint when they are way beyond the wear specification.

If it doesn't stay still with that side jacked up with the suspension putting weight(force) on it, then you're screwed. Best bet is to replace the balljoint at that point.

If your boot has been torn open the ball joint is surely toast, replace it and your car will drive better and you'll actually be able to torque the bolt.

i think he says he has a good ball joint just the castle nut wont screw in best be take it off check the threads if there good try by hand. if it still persists pull it off again and get a tap and dye set to clean the threads

Well, I don't think anybody is sure what he's saying since he's typing jibberish, but it's pretty common for really clapped out ball joints to rotate too freely and not allow proper torque to be put on the ball joint nut.

I've never had a problem installing the castle nut on a new balljoint. I can't even think of anything you'd do to it before installing the nut that would damage the threads.

I disagree. While it can be a sign of a worn balljoint, there are certainly situations where even brand new joints can spin 'in themselves', not allowing it to tighten down.

To the OP: Try jackup up 'against' the lower control a smidge to get some pressure on it, then tighten it down.
