Options other than hood pins??
Back in august my hood flew up on my kouki at high speed. Stock hood, stock latch- and yes, the hood was fully latched. The hood smashed the windshield as well as the sunroof, and demolished the roof. I just got the car back from the body shop after a new roof skin was installed (no sunroof now

i was in the junk yard on one occasion searchin for datsun 620 parts, came upon one that had a chain attached from somewhere on the inside of the engine bay, to the hood, and a lock in the middle. i guess this was so no one could open the hood without key even once they 'popped' it.
that doesnt help you but, good luck

My question is, how the hell the hood flew off if it was latched? The catch broke or the latch broke? I've had a fiber hood fly on me once, but my dumbass forgot that I had the hood popped. Been messing around with these cars since 2000 and never had any issue with hoods flying off other than that one time.

The hood was fully latched, and i guess with the wind of (ahem, cough cough 120mph)... it came up. At that speed, it came up so quickly, that the safety latch (the spring actuated one) was just not quick enough to grab the hood. The hood catch was still intact on the hood- it was definitely the latch that let go. It didnt shake or wobble prior to coming up, and I had been driving the car for about 3 days since the last time I had popped the hood. It just came up out of nowhere. Got a nice shower of glass, and definitely needed a new pair of underpants. |

![]() was working on my 620, did a test drive around the block, realized i needed to give it more throttle, got on main road, forgot hood wasnt fully closed, hood flew open during acceleration.... suuucked man, i can only imagine if i were on the highway. the metal of a 620's hood is super thin, it tried to fold in half. when you try to shut it, the deformation wouldnt allow the latch to line back up. put some of my 550/paracord to use (had to remove hood latch and grill.) she's all fixed now, though. ![]()
