a few questions. whyd they do this? will this work?
Okay. So last month I bought another 240 hatch. Paid 2000 for it and it came with sr, garrett 2876, aftermarket rad, fmic, xxr 962, megan coilovers, series 1 aem, 850cc injectors, act clutch, and fidanza flywheel. And a little more. I felt like it was a steal considering the motor, turbo, and aem.
Its never ran right. I've put it on the dyno and the guys at the shop just couldn't get a good tune on it. It kept breaking up around 5800. Its got a super choppy start up. Sounds like the starter and flywheel are slipping and grinding, but they're not. After I get it running and driving on the road, it sputters for a good five minutes and then clears right up. Daily driving status after a few minutes of sputtering. Usually after about five minutes. What could it be? So yesterday I'm looking at it and see a hose with a filter coming off the iacv. Isnt that supposr to be running to an intercooler pipe? Why would the previous owner just run a filter off of it? Any reasons? Should I just go ahead and run it to my piping? LMAO this will not work, Connect it to the intake where it should be, right in front of the throttle body. If there is not a spot for it to connect you have the wrong intake pipe thats not for sr

Sorry to sound like such an idiot, as this should probably be common knowledge. But where exactly should I connect it? I was just gonna have a bung welded on tomorrow and run it to there. There is already some kinda spot with a sensor plugged in right before the throttle body.

Have a short piece of pipe welded to you IC pipe before the throttle body. Anywhere will really do. Was the car converted to MAP or does it still have a MAF?

Search for sr20det coldpipe on google, youll see what its supposed to look like. That fitting could be for a MAP sensor however like JR said, in which case it wouldnt be so bad to run it like that, but i still would get the proper Piping and route it like nissan had it.

I think that's a whack ass IAT setup, which is needed regardless if he is MAP or MAF. If you are MAP it's not that big of a deal, Supra guys leave their shit wide open when they switch over, but that doesn't mean it's right...

That is an IAT sensor for whatever computer he is using. A bad spot at that, it should be located in the intake manifold to give the computer an accurate measurement. If the computer is using a MAP then the IACV can be fed from that breather, it doesnt make a difference. If it is MAF, the IACV should be fed from the cold pipe so that the air is metered.
I think at first the IACV was hooked up to that fitting, but the whoever installed the computer took the easy way of installing the IAT into that fitting instead of drilling and tapping the manifold. If it is breaking up, you may be blowing out the spark due to incorrect plug gap or weak coilpacks. |

Actually, that's the recommended spot for IAT's to prevent heatsoak transmitted through the manifold...

So i am trying to do a search for any threads going into detail on iat placement and heat soak, but Zilvia search is being gay and giving me a blank screen.
Wouldn't having the IAT placed into the mani be a better location, being that it'll give you the closest "true" intake temp? How much difference would it really show in readings and performance, in regards to heat soak? I actually switched to map on my 25 rebuild and this is something I want to be educated on more, before doing the final placement. |

Iat location is fine, you can move it but unless your making a shit load of power to be blunt it won't make that much of a diff. Kinda like the map sensor on mani vs off a vacuum arguement.
The reason it starts ruff is because that iacv tube. Connect it about 5" from the throttle body and your cold starts will improve. The breaking up is prob gunna be a tune/plug temp-gap/or coil issue |

get a hose barb welded on for IACV and i would also fix the IAT sensor so that it is going into the IC pipe for a better reading. right now it is besicaly doing jack shit.
