Air conditioning problem.

Ok. So when I bought my car, the AC never worked. I never took the time to try and figure it out, till I burned a hole in the A/C hose and let the freon out. Since then I got a new hose, and the conversion kit for 134 from r12.

When I hit the AC button in the car, the clutch on the compressor does not engage. The light seemed to never come on, but maybe it was just really dim because today in the dark I saw it for the first time(when it still didnt work)

I recharged the compressor the best I could. I was told from some people to leave the fan on HIGH with the AC button on, and when the freon got to a high enough level the clutch would kick in? (didnt work) and from another person, I was told to jump it from the battery, and charge it like that(clutch engages, it takes freon)

WHEN i went to put my quick-connect fitting on the AC hose, WITHOUT the compressor running, I got shocked. All wires were disconnected from the compressor, and put in a place without metal contact. The AC compressor was getting voltage from ...somewhere... and shocking the shit out of me. It does do it in ACC, only when the engine is running. I hope its not the coil?

I re-hooked everything back up proper and it still doesnt engage the clutch. I am thinking it may be a bad switch inside? For some reason I doubt it though.

I bought a multimeter, and threw the box & recipt away as i left the store, and when I got home, it didnt work. They wouldnt let me return it, OR exchage it! Im not gonna buy another just yet, it was $100! Im pissed.

I guess its either electrical, or I didnt put enough freon in, or something else. I am doing this all by trial and error, but its pretty costly to keep stabbing in the dark, and its hot out. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I have also considered running a switch to the a/c directly, but that seems a bit bad. I dont want to burn out the compressor because i rigged it up, and never fixed what was really wrong.
