Broken bolt in the head...

Ok, I'm working on my 7MGE, but it's a general problem so I was hoping some1 could help me out on Zilvia too...

I posted on SupraForums about my problem. Please check it out and reply here with any advice, if any.

I saw the pic that sucks.....not as bad as my car though, I have 4 of the 8 exhaust manifold studs on my SR broken off into the head, and they are sunk in, not protruding outward like yours. I have no idea what to do either

Uhh, go get a set of bolt extractors/ez-outs at sears/autozone/store of your choice and go to town.

It's a real simple fix...what's so hard about it?

i was in a similar situation earlier.

hmm someone already suggested a good idea on that page, weld a nut on it.

or heat up the area around the bolt with a torch and then put some ice on the broken stud/bolt and use vice grips to try to spin it out

i tried drilling the broken extractor piece out but my bits won't cut through it. Will the "Drill-Outs" be able to cut through the broken piece and pull it out?

if you can't get enough heat with a propane torch try a MAPP gas torch to heat the surrounding metal, hopefully expanding it

i can't really tell how much it sticks out, but sometimes you can dremel a notch and use a screw driver, or dremel 2 sides and use an open end wrench on the stud

welding a nut on the stud sounds like the best (or most likely to work) method

Don't just drill it out and drill a bigger hole, then tap it. If you are going to fix it, do it the right way. Drill the whole out and get a product called Helicoil. They are hardened steel inserts that go inside the damaged thread. What you do is you get the proper pitch/tap kit and it gives you a bigger tap. You drill it, tap it and then screw in the helicoil. Then you screw in the bolt. That is the way you fix it. I had that problem on my exhaust manifold studs on my turbo'd integra. Try that, I did and it worked and it was worth it.

Go get a west coast choppers hat and then weld a nut on there to pull it out,,, ever since i got my welder little problems like that have never phased me, it just gives me a reason to "fabricate" some new stuff.

happened to me before with my b18c1. my dad was stupid and drilled it out with a drill bit but made the hole bigger Someone suggested that I use a dremel and make a + on the broken bolt, and then use a phillips head screwdriver to screw it out. sounds like a longshot but it's just a suggestion. good luck mangs

just an update for anyone that has this problem in the future. instead of welding, screwing, drilling, blah...i just went to the hardware store. look for pliers that have sharp ends on them, not the ones with teeth like grooves. it allowed me to bite into the metal and rotate it out. i included a pic of the tool...thanks for the ideas guys!
