grinding noise from block or tranny?

Ok heres the deal. I purchased a 93' auto coupe for $200 to replace my crashed coupe. It has 184k on it, and was hit in the front slightly. It needed a quick pull to the rad support and it was good to go.

It makes a horrible grinding noise coming from low down. Possibly block or transmission. I thought it was the Accessory fan hitting the clutch fan, because 3 of the 4 posts that hold the acc fan were broken. So i took the acc fan out hoping that was the cause.....NOPE

This motor only needs to last me about a month. I have the motor and 5 speed trans out of my 120k car, i just need to do the timing chain on it before i put it in this shell. Any ideas of what this noise is?

Its not Exactly a grinding noise, as i said i thought it was the 2 fans hitting each other, if that gives you an idea of what the sound is like. Just sounded like the clutch fan was spinning on the stopped acc fan. Timing chain sounds like its about to snap (10x worse then the sound my 120k chain makes).

no ideas?

Ok so last night i went to the store with it. Started it up and the noise was loud as hell.....pulled away from my house and came up to a stop sign. I put it in neutral just to see something, and the noise stopped while i sat there. Came back when i put it in drive. Further down the road i sped up, then put it in neutral and the noise wasn't completely gone like it was at the stop sign, but it was just slight.

Guessing that would indicate something towards my trans? But what?

We had a Taurus in class that did that and it was a clogged cat. Dunno if that would be it on yours though.
