j30 vlsd swap

I hope you guys can help me. I am doing a j30 vlsd swap for my 95 240sx non-abs. I understand that I will have to shorten my 240sx driveshaft if i want to play it safe, but could I use a j30 driveshaft instead. And dose anyone know a place I could get an aluminum driveshaft for this.
Thanks

I was pretty sure you only needed output shafts not a driveshaft.

The nose on the J30 pumpkin is just a little bigger. It really is not a big deal though because the pumpkin does not move on these cars. You will get some movement from the mounts, but nothing like an old solid axle car. Just test fit your driveshaft.

As far as aluminum, any competant driveline service can make you one.

No Problems at all. I just did thissam exact thing a few weeks ago. 95 non-abs 240 with 95+ j30 lsd. No problems at ll just simplyboltit in. The driveshaft was not a issue at all. I believe the length diference's are with the ABS equipped 240's.

Good luck... tok me 1.5 ours complete!!! Very EASY

The J30 VLSD (just like other R200 diffs that have abs) has an abs sensor ring. J30's, S13's, S14's (maybe some others) that are equpied with ABS have driveshafts that are .5" shorter than non-abs. Many people have done it using a non-abs drive shaft. It's just a tighter squezze with the abs sensor on the diff. I'll be putting one in a non-abs S13 soon.

kandyflip445- no output shafts needed with the J30 VLSD

i think you do need output shafts for certain years. i believe 95 and 96 both have the 6 bolt.

95+ is a direct bolt in, no axels/output shafts/driveshafts needed. My s14 is a non abs car and I never had a problem with the j30 diff.

did you get a pre 95 J30 VLSD? Mine is a 95 bolts into S13's and S14's no need for output shafts. just gotta get longer bolts and (i'm still unsure of this) some kind of washers...

So a 96 J30 VLSD w/ABS will swap right into a S13 coupe w/o ABS..........I can still use the S13 non-ABS driveshaft?.................or should I get the J30 VLSD w/ABS driveshaft?

Just use your S13 driveshaft, ABS or not...both work. You WILL need the longer carrier bolts from infiniti and the insulating washers that fit between the head of the carrier bolt and the diff. and the rubber spacer/washers that fit between the top of the diff and the car. If you want to do it right....hit up the infiniti parts department. Make sure they DONT order you the late 96-97 upper washer/spacer, it has the bushing and washer/spacer as one peice and is very expensive, so get the 95 peice. The carrier bolts have the same part numbers but the washers have a different thickness "crown" of rubber around them, so they are 2 different part numbers and you need one of each (the diff torques a certain direction so one of the "crowns" is thicker than the other one).

Hope that helps.
