Timing chain done...now a rough idle/low power issue! Help!
Alright well I did the timing chain kit on my stock ka24e this last weekend (using http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/timing_chain/). Went fairly well, but took like 12 hours (that includes driving around getting things we forgot...doh!). She started right up and no rattle....oh so nice
![]() Anyways, she's running rough at idle. Sounds kinda like a V8 or something, so I'm assuming it's missing. The reasons for this that I've come up with are: 1. I cracked the mount on the distributor when I was replacing it because I tried to mount the dist. with the spindle indside the front cover. It didn't crack all the way across, but it's pretty substantial. I'm thinking maybe that's throwing my timing off or making me miss or something. 2. I've done some researching (here, mostly) and now I'm wondering if maybe it's the MAFS? Anyone have any other ideas, things I can check? I've got a new dist. coming in the mail, so that'll be fixed. Any knowledge is appreciated ![]() |

You aligned the silver links on the chain to the punchmarks on the sprockets when the motor was at TDC on the compression stroke of #1 right?
You also slid in the oil pump with the two punchmarks aligned? Other then that, you might have to try a new cover.

same thing happened to me before. check to make sure all your hoses are connected first. i found out one of mines was partially off, causing a rough idle/low power.

![]() Yeah, we aligned the silver links with the marks on both gears while at TDC on piston #1. Just to clarify, I cracked the mounting portion (the metal), not the plastic cover. I wish I had pics, but my batteries are dead in my camera. |

Well.....none of the above! I checked the vacuum hoses and stuff and those were all fine. So I checked the throttle position sensor like I'd read about, making sure it got enough voltage or something. It seemed to be fine, but when I put my voltmeter on the middle wire (there's 3), the engine cleared up and she sounded perfect, even when I revved it.
So yeah....wierd. I'm gonna get a new tps tomorrow and I'm pretty sure that'll fix it. Either that or my wiring's fucked. |

Or maybe you just need to make sure the ground is good.
