Ok got a question for you guys, and I am sure that I will catch a couple flame genades on this one. Why are so many guys going with these huge brakes on like there second upgrade? There first upgrade being wheels so they can fit monster brakes behind them. I was checking out the Formula D cars in the pits and most are not running giant brakes. I do understand for a track car, but not for drift. It's a ric...I mean tuner thing right or am I way wrong.

most people run Z32 brakes
which are an excellent upgrade for the car. fit wel, not huge and MOST FD guys run them too. if they dont have some BREMBOs or ROTORA or something like that...


drifting brakes such as zbrakes are EXTREMELY common upgrade. even in japan, people get a set of R-chassis brakes and such. stock brakes suck. upgrade is defiantely worth the money! and stopping ability.

z32 brakes with a nice set of brake pads should be good enough for drift. just like dousan saidd

i know a guy w/ a stock motor 240, and he has like, the cobra rotor stuff that only fit under 17 inch rims or some crap. :P
it looks nice but i think it's crap. i only upgraded mine to the s15 4 pots cuz i hate shitty looking brakes. ie. single piston.

I would venture to say many of the people with big brakes don't need them... a set of stickier tires and more aggressive pads do just fine with stock brakes. But on the other hand the 300zx front upgrade is cheap and easy, and when fitted with a 300zx MC, the bias is just right, plus big brakes do really look great.

Only reason I'd say go for the bigger brakes is if you are constantly having brake fade. If the only problem you have is wanting to stop faster than more agressive pads and better rotors should be all you need.

Sorry guys I truly was not talking about a Z32 upgrade, which makes sense...You get better brakeing and better choices on wheels with the five lug. I was kinda talking about 13" Mustang rotors or going into the poor house to get massive Rotoras,or Brembos. Don't get me wrong the Rotora's look sick and if I had stupid money I might have to roll them, but on a Dalily driver...maybe not.

Either they want the car to look good since anything bigger than 16s looks like shit with tiny z32 rotors behind it, or they just want to waste a bunch of money on overkill brakes.

A select few people who actually track their cars experience fade on Z32 brakes with street/track dual duty pads. So, for those who would rather run a pad like this (Hawk HP+, Porterfield R4S, Carbotech Panther Plus, etc) instead of switching out street pads for full on race pads (Hawk Blues or HT10, Carbotech XP8, XP9, etc), a bigger brake setup will work better. Bigger rotors can dissipate more heat at a greater rate, so your brake setup will be cooler and require more streetable temperature range pads given a constant driving rate.

Plus, Z32 rotors are only 11", which isn't even that big. Lots of compact cars come with bigger brakes from teh factory now.

Yep. IIRC correctly, there was a definitive writeup on brakes, and setups.

I think the normally go up for bigbrake setups for bling factor. It reduces mad brakefade, but, it doesn't mean you won't get fade at all. Stopping power is increased slightly.

I personally think the only way to really stop faster is to get high pressure steel lines, to hold the pressure better. but thats just me. And im a noooob.

good pads... is a plus..... really good pads, like porterfields.. i wouldnt mind the extra inches in rotor size..
