timing help pleeassee KA24DE
Ok, so I changed the head gasket after doing a timing job. When i re-installed the cams I rotated the crank to TDC and then lined up the first cam lobes to be pointing outwards (towards the fenders). Then I reinstalled the upper chain making sure the spacing between gear marks was appropriate. Re-installed dist to fire at #1. The car cranks but wouldn't turn over. I loosened and spun the distributor all the way to the right and I got it to start. I checked the timing with a light and the marks weren't even close to the TDC pin. is it possible that I'm off 180 degrees with my cams? I would get valve ping if that were the case right?? The car won't even come close to starting without the distributor in that position.
So I pulled the valve cover and set the crank to TDC. the lobes pointed outwards.. rotated it again another TDC and cams pointed inwards.. So I'm pretty sure the chains are correct. Unless I'm off by 180 degress. Can someone verify this before I end up re-doing my timing for no reason?
