S13: Fuel Tank / Sending Unit delimma

Looking for information from anyone experienced with S13 using an aftermarket fuel cell or if there is a compatible sending unit float. Besides throwing $300 on a new assembly through the stealership or gambling buying one used that might not last a year anyways?

Anyone got a definite solution to making the original fuel pump assembly sender unit read like it's supposed to? Is it possible to use a different make/model sending unit (float) that will read similar to the OEM 240sx s13 one? Or is replacing the plastic floater with a foam floater a solution maybe?

Need smart responses don't post smart ass response that involve the mentioned in bold statement and wastes our time, unless spending that $300 is the only definite solution to the problem which would be wack...
