A 25 Old Beauty BNR32. Preserving a piece of History
**Disclaimer - This particular "build" may be bored to you because I am not building a 1000WHP R32 GTR. I bought this car to preserve a piece of history that it was done RIGHT from the factory and will keep it factory spec as much as possible. Besides I have other go-fast cars anyways. Please scroll down If you are still interested.**
I've done many builds before but this is first time I ever creating a thread about it. This journey started a long a go when I played The Gran Turismo back in 97. I was fortunate to drive the car when I lived in Japan in early 2000's and told my self I am going to get one for my self one day. Time has passed and 2014 has arrived which 1989 BNR32 is now 25 years old. I went to Japan last January to find the car I want. Unfortunately price for 1989 Skylines have gone up very much due to higher demands. Came back to U.S empty handed. Then this ad popped up on Zilvia Quote:
Color wasn't my favorite but condition of the vehicle seemed immaculate so I proceeded to purchase it. Unfortunately this GTR was built in 1989 September so I have 3 month wait which it played perfect since I was overseas and plan to return late August. So the longest 3month of wait started. wait, wait, wait,,,, x99999 I came back to U.S on Aug 27th, my GTR arrived at Long Beach port a few days prior but Customs clearance needed to wait till Sept. Sept 1st being Holiday, I figured they will release the next day. Well they didn't. I had to come back to Long Beach for 3 more times more. or was it 4 times? LOL Customs gave so much hard time it wasn't even funny. Anyways, here is video of my car finally being released to me at the shipping warehouse. Getting ready for 1400 + miles road trip to Oregon.
Took the car to Hobby shop in USMC base for oil change. Rotella T6 5W-40 with Napa Gold filter After the oil change I noticed oil leak from where the filter is... couldn't figure out for almost a week then I finally noticed the diameter of rubber ring is actually different... So I went and got the Purolator +Example pic+ Compared Napa, Fram, Nissan, Purolator for rubber ring size and Napa was the only one that had smaller diameter ring. So for you RB owners, please avoid the Napa oil filter. Last edited by K_style; 10-29-2014 at 11:01 PM.. |

A few weeks passed by and finally its time to hit the road !!!
Instead of driving straight to OR, decided to take some detour to stop by at places I can't visit normally... Monterey - Laguna Seca Raceway Santa Rosa - Russian River Brewing company Rutherford - Caymus Vinyards I was passing Santa Cruz CA then all of sudden car was acting up and started sound like a Subaru... Took the exit and went to near by auto parts store to check. #5 Coilpack was the issue... called all the stores in town but no one had the parts. It was just 30~40 miles from the hotel I will be staying so I started to drive again. For some reason after 3 mins of driving the car was running on all 6 cylinders thankfully so I made to the hotel safely. Found a Nissan coilpack from an import store so I replaced the bad #5 coil pack. Bye bye Subaru... Last edited by K_style; 10-29-2014 at 11:13 PM.. |

Welcome to the GT-R Club. Be prepared to be broke haha
EDIT: you wont be satisfied with stock power after a few months. Ive talked to probably a handful of other ppl that wanted to keep it stock but then a few months later saying they want more power.

I've driven straight from LA to Portland twice. Been wanting to drive my car up there, so I might do it next summer.
Super clean car though, hope to see it when I go visit family up there. |

Yes Russian River!! I trust you stocked up on some Pliny? My folks moved to Santa Rosa as soon as I went to school, which was a bummer for a while, but being 5 minutes away from RR when I visit is pretty damn sweet. Anyways car is looking great, hope to see it at red door one of these sundays!

this is going to be good, ordering all kinds of BNR32 and 33 parts for stock whenever you need anything.
