Yes and no. Mustangs and F bodies run all kinds of wide tires on relatively narrow wheels. You might be able to get away with it as well, but you'll have to go with the classic look. That means no crazy body kits or flushness or any of that crap. Tasteful subdued wheels with a conservative offset would work with a 255. Just don't expect it to be very direct in the handling department.

255's will bulge a bit on an 8 inch wheel. How much it will bulge will most likely be decided what kind of tire your running as not all tire manufacturers make there tires the same. In short, if you think tire bulging out past the sides of the wheel lip looks stupid then your answer is yes. A 225 or 235 tire will look an assload better in my opinion

IMO a 255 would look dumb on a 8" rim. If you have no other choice or are getting them for free, be my guest. But then again if you are getting them for free, sell them and buy something better. 205 maby?

it depends on the manufactuer of the tires. First not all tires are created equal. some 255 are wider than others.
Next it also depends on the profile. 255 /60 would look so "stupid". I am pretty sure everyone would agree. However, if you get 255/35 or 255/40, then it would look better. I would use 245/40. |

I'm running a 215/40 up front on a 9. Great look. Out in the rear 245/40, very wide meaty look w/o the thick sidewall :for teh win:

Daniel, who gives a damn if they look cool? Too many people in the S-chassis world care too much about looking cool and fail to recognize that smaller sizes overheat too easily even on our relatively light cars.
The problem really is that 8" falls below most manufacturers' recommended wheel width for a 255/40 tire. You might as well try it, but I doubt you'd be particularly impressed with the results. I'd actually like to see what it looks like. |
