Trying to decide between which Tanabe Pro SS - Zilvia.net Forums | Nissan 240SX (Silvia) and Z (Fairlady) Car Forum

Type II w/o helper springs or the regular SS w/ the helper spring. Originally I was going to go with Tanabe springs / Agx, but given as how the more I read the more I realize that i'll just want more out of my suspension, I figured i'd get something like these with a little more aggressive rates (6/4) but overall just a better system. Car is NEVER tracked, strictly DD, but I want this car to handle like it's on rails while still being some what comfortable for the daily commute on NYC roads.

But back to my question, for a DD, are helper springs necessary? Are there any other differences between the two systems that I'm not seeing on their website?

Actually, check that.... These c/o's don't really go that low at all... 2 1/2 max in front 1 1/2 in the rear max....

cheap ass coilovers suck. at least spend 900+ dollars. get dual height adjustable, or else dont even bother.

ummm, all the pricing I saw on those SS units were over a G.

The S0-C units were at or under a G.

Yea I've taken them off the table, looking into other's.... Maybe Tein Flex or SS. For now, i'm just going to start picking up adj. arms and sways...

tanabe SS are better valved then the low end teins. make sure its the orange color version. those get pretty low if you run like 16s. Thao ran them for the longest. awesome coilover and stiff for the entry level price. simple true adjustment, not tein bouncy. the one with the helper spring is nice if you slam the car so the spring doesn't move around and pop on you.

I've read about Tein's valving and I really can't say that I was in favor of Tein over tanabe at the moment but I was/am considering.

As for going low? They are advertised at 2.5 up front max and 1.5 in teh rear max! That's not much lower then Tanabe DF210/Sportlines/MR springs....

I actually emailed Tanabe-usa and inquired with them about the helper springs...

I have no idea who Thao is either.. lol But if he ran the Tanabe SS on his s14 tell him post in here with his thoughts on them..

If you are lowering your car ALOT... as low as it would go...

Get the one with the helper springs...

If its a suspension that is set up properly, then the helpersprings will get rid of some of the noise...

When lowering the locking spring seats so much that the free lenth of the spring is shorter then the free length of the shock, that will clunk. The helper spring is there to hold the spring in place so it doesnt move around / make noise when the free length of the spring is not as long as the shock... If the helper spring spring rate is not strong enough or if the helper spring is too short that the helperspring and spring together are too short, it will clunk...

if you are spending a lil over a grand for coilover. try kts, stance, or megan's, d2, powertrix... some people love these and some dont.. and these are dual height adjustable and you can drop it to the floor. I believe all these are streetable for dd use. i dd with the kts

I think the Tanabe's are way better than Megan or D2, but maybe thats just me. If you don't care about slamming the car Tanabe's are nice. Hardly any bounciness like my HE's, Megans, or D2's. If I had a choice now between my HE's or Tanabe's I'd probably go Tanabe.

I'd definitely place Tanabe's over MRs and D2.

But like you said, the tanabe's don't really go that low at all.. That is a sticking point for me inregards to purchasing...

sustec pro ss with helper springs = garbage for lowering. i removed the lock perches and bottomed out the spring perches and it's still waaaaay too high.

yea they don't go that low bottomed out, but its good ride hieght for daily driving
